Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Dennis Franks! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Carter Pewterschmidt! The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, and Frank Antenori.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Pewterschmidt misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Pewterschmidt pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Pewterschmidt is looking to clinch. Pewterschmidt with a poor takedown and Franks counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Pewterschmidt preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Franks really is a fat lump. Pewterschmidt wants to stand up but Franks is controlling him. Franks not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up. Franks tries to free his leg and advance position but Pewterschmidt is retaining full guard. Pewterschmidt wants to stand but Franks is controlling the position. Franks throwing strikes from guard but Pewterschmidt blocks nicely.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Dennis Franks. Pewterschmidt shoots in looking for a takedown. Franks tries to sprawl out of it but Pewterschmidt keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Franks manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. Dennis Franks has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Carter Pewterschmidt. Pewterschmidt tries to clinch but fails miserably and Franks counters with a nice double leg into half guard. Franks controlling the pace. Franks is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount! The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Franks throwing sloppy strikes, which aren't doing any damage. Franks sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it! Franks looking to control but Pewterschmidt is working nicely, looking to advance position himself. Pewterschmidt takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Franks controlling from mount. Pewterschmidt wants to hold on but Franks pushes him away. Franks controlling his opponent. Pewterschmidt tries to reverse the position but Franks maintains control.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Pewterschmidt wants to try and get back to his feet. Franks lands with some strikes. Pewterschmidt is writhing around trying to get back to his feet. Pewterschmidt is trying desperately to improve position. Franks content just to control the position here. Franks lands a big elbow. Franks dives in and grabs Pewterschmidt's left leg, looking for a takedown. Pewterschmidt pushes down on Franks's head and hops out. Pewterschmidt tries to close the distance and clinch up but Franks swats him away and circles back towards the center. Pewterschmidt rushes Franks and presses him up against the cage. Pewterschmidt gets an overhook and lands an elbow to the side of the head. Pewterschmidt has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Franks uses from the top position. Pewterschmidt really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Franks. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Franks is looking to work some ground and pound but Pewterschmidt has wrist control. Franks trying to pass the guard. He's being very persistent here but Pewterschmidt manages to land a sweep and now he's on top! Pewterschmidt must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Franks looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Pewterschmidt passes into half guard.

Franks moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard. Franks might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
That's one minute gone in the round. Pewterschmidt wants to get up but he can't break Franks's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here. Franks is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far. Pewterschmidt would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard. Franks is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Franks looking to control.
That's two minutes gone in the round. We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace. Pewterschmidt trying to stand up but can't free himself from Franks's guard.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Pewterschmidt throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
Dennis Franks's cut is getting worse. Franks tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Pewterschmidt manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat. Pewterschmidt tries to clinch up but Franks circles away and keeps his distance. Pewterschmidt closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage. Pewterschmidt working on landing some head shots here - that one got through nicely. A nice left hand lands by Pewterschmidt.

Franks wants to get back to striking at distance but Pewterschmidt won't allow it.
Franks takes a shot to the head. Pewterschmidt lands an elbow that stopped Franks in his tracks for a moment. Franks tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Pewterschmidt lands a right hand.
Dennis Franks's cut is bleeding quite badly. He's got to try and protect it. Franks dodges an elbow strike from Pewterschmidt.
Pewterschmidt misses with a knee strike.
Pewterschmidt lands a knee to the head there! That was nasty!
Franks wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Franks is trying to drag Pewterschmidt to the mat but Pewterschmidt just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Dennis Franks. That's going to take a lot out of him. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Franks takes a knee right on the jaw!

Franks tries to work over Pewterschmidt's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target. Pewterschmidt is trying to stall.
Franks decides to pull guard. Pewterschmidt decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Franks, up you get! Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Pewterschmidt closes the distance looking to clinch and Franks counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Franks. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Franks loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. Pewterschmidt wants to stand and escape but Franks is having none of it. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Franks is in close to Pewterschmidt's body, working some short punches and elbows. Franks decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Pewterschmidt, up you get! Pewterschmidt gets caught flat footed, as Franks shoots in with a quick takedown into guard. Franks trying to control but Pewterschmidt is working from the bottom. Pewterschmidt wants to sweep but no luck. Franks decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Pewterschmidt, up you get! Both fighters are breathing heavily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Franks shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Pewterschmidt's guard. Pewterschmidt avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. Pewterschmidt tries to land a sweep but no joy. Franks trying to control but Pewterschmidt is working from the bottom. Pewterschmidt wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Franks is now in half guard. Franks not doing much here.

He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Franks is pressing down on Pewterschmidt's thigh, looking to free his foot. Pewterschmidt is holding on for now. Franks moves into full mount! Pewterschmidt won't be happy about that! Franks throws some shoulder strikes here and then postures up. Oh, he's gone for an armbar! Pewterschmidt has his hands clasped together but Franks breaks the hold and Pewterschmidt is forced to tap! This one is aaaaaaaaaaall over! That was lightning fast by Franks!
