PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Samuel Romano (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Weerasak Prechantakul (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Romano comes to the cage accompanied by Nicotina Groove by SUBSONICA. Weerasak Prechantakul told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Samuel Romano!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Weerasak Prechantakul!
The judges for this bout are Kenichi Hosakawa, Taro Takaoka and Hirohito Nitta.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Prechantakul closes this distance looking for a takedown but Romano circles away.
Romano tests Prechantakul's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Romano swinging wildly here.
Prechantakul tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Prechantakul looks to clinch
and Romano counters with a good low kick that Prechantakul was not able to check.
Romano throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Prechantakul stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.

Romano keeps the fight on the outside.
Romano looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.
Romano comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Prechantakul fails with an attempt to clinch.
Prechantakul drops his hands momentarily and Romano takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.

Romano manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Prechantakul on his heels. He'll look to pass Prechantakul's guard now, I'm sure.
Prechantakul looking to hit a scissor sweep but Romano is one step ahead there.
Romano postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.

Romano not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Romano lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Prechantakul wants to stand but Romano is controlling the position.
Romano throwing strikes but missing.
Romano is looking to work some ground and pound but Prechantakul has wrist control.
Romano content to stall in guard here.
Prechantakul is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Romano has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

We're going to have a standup here because Samuel Romano wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.

Prechantakul gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Romano to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Prechantakul is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Romano wants to control from the top but Prechantakul keeps moving.

The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Samuel Romano just wasn't active enough.
Prechantakul misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Nice takedown defense from Romano. No joy for Prechantakul on that attempt.
Samuel Romano has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Weerasak Prechantakul.
Prechantakul tries for a takedown but Romano sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Prechantakul tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Romano manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Romano lands a nice looking body shot.
Romano lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Romano lands a slapping body shot.
Prechantakul looks winded!
Prechantakul's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Romano connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Prechantakul scrambles back to his feet.
A nice leg kick lands there from Romano.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Prechantakul tries to clinch up but Romano circles away and keeps his distance.
Ooooh, nice body kick lands from Romano. Prechantakul shrugs it off though.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Romano lands a nice shot to the body.

Romano shoots in and gets a takedown into Prechantakul's guard.
Romano's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Romano's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Romano passes Prechantakul's left leg - he's now in half guard.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

Romano is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Still in half guard, Romano seems content to control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!


Prechantakul tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Romano manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Romano closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Prechantakul quickly recovers to half guard.
Prechantakul wants to control but Romano is keeping busy.

Romano is taking a breather. Prechantakul says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Romano takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Romano not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Romano is figuring out what he wants to do next.

Prechantakul avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Romano.

Prechantakul kicks off Romano and gets to his feet.
Romano jabs Prechantakul to the body, keeping him at a distance.
Prechantakul tries to clinch there but Romano circles away.
Romano defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Prechantakul.
Prechantakul on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Romano. Romano obviously looking to wear him down.
Prechantakul throws a left and a right that both miss
and Romano counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Romano throws a left jab followed by a right to the body, Oh Prechantakul colapses and takes a barrage of punches from Romano as he moves to mount! the ref stops the fight and Prechantakul is left battered and dazed whilst Romano and his camp cheer!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:38 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Samuel Romano!
Our winner, Samuel Romano, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
