PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Shane Sharp (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and George Carlos (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Carlos is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Stronger. The key to victory for Shane Sharp has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Shane Sharp!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, George Carlos!
The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, Alec Ball and Steve Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Carlos changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Sharp looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Sharp regains half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Carlos slows the pace down in half guard.
Carlos tries to pass to full mount but Sharp defends it.

Carlos decides to stand and escape the position.

Sharp gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Carlos trying to control but Sharp is working from the bottom.
Carlos won't allow Sharp to get back to his feet.

Carlos gets to his feet. Sharp looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Carlos lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.
Sharp shoots and misses

and Carlos counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Carlos.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Carlos won't allow Sharp to sweep him here.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Sharp throws his legs up looking for a submission but Carlos uses it to pass to side control.
Sharp is breathing heavily.

Carlos tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Carlos has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Sharp manages to get back to half guard.

Carlos stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Sharp to get to his feet.

Carlos decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Carlos is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Sharp is just riding it out for now. Carlos eventually gives up the hold.

Sharp is defending against the submission attempts here by Carlos.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Carlos prevents Sharp from standing back up.

Carlos escapes and gets back to his feet.

Carlos fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Sharp sprawls well initially but Carlos persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Sharp is staying active underneath Carlos, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Carlos takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Carlos's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Carlos not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Carlos trying to control the action but Sharp is working from the bottom.

Sharp looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.

Sharp looking for a kimura from the bottom but Carlos passes into side control!

Carlos wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Sharp, who protects the arm well.
Carlos in side control, just content to control the action for now.

Carlos thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Sharp prevents Carlos from improving position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Carlos wants to lay and pray for a moment but Sharp keeps working.
Carlos is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
Sharp is being controlled here.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Despite being in the dominant position, George Carlos just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Sharp tries to close the distance and clinch but Carlos swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
Sharp throws a sloppy head kick

and Carlos decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Sharp's guard.
Carlos is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Carlos throwing strikes from guard but Sharp blocks nicely.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

George Carlos dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



Carlos has managed to clinch.

Sharp is fighting off a takedown attempt but Carlos is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Sharp to the mat. Sharp regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
Carlos wants to pass the guard but Sharp is keeping the position.
Carlos wants to control from the top but Sharp keeps moving.
Carlos showing good wrestling skills to control the position.
Let's hope that Carlos has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Carlos is breathing heavily.
Carlos advances to half guard.

Sharp is trying to get back to full guard.
Carlos is trying to control the action in half guard but Sharp is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Sharp is looking to escape.
Carlos is keen to just control but Sharp is a slippery customer.
Sharp wants to get back to his feet.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Carlos prevents Sharp from standing back up.
Carlos throwing shots but Sharp is blocking nicely.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Carlos bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Carlos tries for a kimura but Sharp is defending well.

Carlos tries to advance to mount but can't.

Carlos tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Carlos has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Carlos stands up.
George Carlos is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Sharp pulls out of a head kick attempt.

A good leg kick by Carlos.

Carlos scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Carlos works his foot free and advances to mount.
Sharp wants to improve position but instead he's given up his back.
Carlos slows the pace down here. Having a little breather whilst he's in a dominant position, looking to rest and regain some energy, ready to go for the finish.

Carlos is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Sharp is defending well though. Carlos let's go of the attempt for now.
Carlos is looking to control Sharp but Sharp is wriggling around and keeping busy.
Carlos throwing lazy shots from the back mount that aren't doing any damage.

Sharp is keeping busy.
Sharp manages to reverse the position and now he's in Carlos's guard. Nice work there by Sharp.
Carlos is looking to sweep but instead, Sharp has passed into half guard.

Sharp decides to stand and escape the position.
A swing and a miss from Carlos.

Carlos gets a takedown into half guard.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Carlos in particular looking to stall.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

George Carlos showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!


Carlos swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Sharp misses with a head kick.

Carlos shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Carlos was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Carlos wants to take his opponent's back but Sharp doesn't allow it.

Carlos has control of Sharp's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Sharp regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Sharp wants to hold on but Carlos pushes him away.
Carlos wants to control the pace but Sharp is squirming around nicely.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Carlos get's back to his feet.

Sharp wants to clinch but Carlos slips to the side
and Carlos counters with a straight right hand.
Sharp is looking to clinch.
Sharp fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Carlos shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Sharp's guard.
Sharp keeping moving, preventing Carlos from controlling successfully.
Carlos trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Carlos is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

Sharp has his foot on Carlos's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Carlos works his way back into a safe position though.
Carlos is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Carlos prevents Sharp from getting back to his feet.

Carlos is pushing down on Sharp's leg trying to pass to half guard. Sharp is fighting to maintain full guard but Carlos has managed to sneak the leg through.
Sharp pushes Carlos off looking to stand but Carlos dives back in and keeps control.

The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Sharp tries to get to full guard but Carlos has control of the leg.

Carlos is working for a submission of some sort.
Carlos is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
Shane Sharp has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Carlos is looking to take a break and control but Sharp is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Carlos is thwarting Sharp's attempts to control the position.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Sharp gets caught flat footed, as Carlos shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Sharp being controlled here, momentarily.
Carlos trying to control the position from guard on top but Sharp is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Carlos has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Carlos stands and steps away. Sharp gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Carlos swats away the attempt to clinch by Sharp.
A nice inside leg kick there by Carlos. That's going to slow Sharp down.

Carlos bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Carlos is in a dominant position here, looking for a kimura. Sharp looks calm but he's in trouble here. Carlos gets his leg over his opponent's head and yanks on the arm. Sharp is tapping like a morse code operator on the titanic! SOS! SOS! Carlos lets go of the hold and Sharp can pop his arm back in it's socket.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:18 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). George Carlos!
