PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Ricardo Jabroni (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and David Caballero (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Jabroni might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Whatever. This should be fireworks!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 18 - 13 - 1, fighting out of Tokyo, Ricardo Jabroni!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, David Caballero!
The judges for this bout are Columbo Gatti, Dean Styles and David Schapiro.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Caballero scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent.
Jabroni avoids the body shot from Caballero.
Caballero misses with a straight right.
A solid body kick from Caballero.
Caballero connects with a crisp jab.
An inside leg kick lands from Caballero.
Jabroni gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Caballero counters with a nice low kick that buckles Jabroni's knee momentarily.
Caballero fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Jabroni.
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Jabroni crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Caballero - the referee stops the clock and Jabroni gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Caballero. Jabroni manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.
Caballero tries to close the distance and clinch but Jabroni swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Caballero misses with a low kick as Jabroni jumps back.
Jabroni moves out of range as Caballero throws a body kick.
The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Jabroni checks a leg kick.

Caballero clobbers Jabroni with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
Caballero lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.
Jabroni ducks under a wild hook from Caballero.
Caballero throws a good cross that connects.
Jabroni checks a low kick from Caballero.
Jabroni takes a body kick right on the floating rib. Ouchie.
Jabroni throws a hook but Caballero avoids it easily.
Jabroni moves out of range of the strikes.
Caballero fakes a jab and scores with a low kick.
Caballero steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Jabroni.
Jabroni drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.
David Caballero seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Caballero throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
Caballero lets loose with a powerful body kick. Jabroni will feel that in the morning.

Caballero fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Jabroni has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

The fight stays on the outside here - Caballero looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Jabroni moves out of range as Caballero throws a body kick.

Caballero instigates a clinch.
I was talking to Jabroni's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.
Jabroni can't get the takedown.
Caballero gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Jabroni.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ricardo Jabroni. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Jabroni tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Caballero just stands there and leans against the cage.

A body shot lands from Jabroni.
Caballero tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.

Caballero creates a bit of space for himself and sneaks an elbow through Jabroni's defenses.
Jabroni lands on the inside with an uppercut.
Jabroni misses with the head strike.
The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows.
Caballero creates a bit of distance and throws an elbow that only just misses.

Jabroni tries to pull guard but Caballero holds him up against the cage and eventually Jabroni drops back down to his feet.

Jabroni escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Caballero scoring well with a low kick there.
Jabroni throws out a loose jab but Caballero uses good head movement to avoid it.
Caballero throws a combination. Jabroni tries to block but a couple of punches get through.
Caballero tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Caballero misses the shot to the body.
The fight stays on the outside here - Caballero looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

and Jabroni counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Jabroni keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.

Jabroni is looking for a kimura but Caballero is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Jabroni to get the leverage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

David Caballero dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Caballero misses with a hook

and Jabroni counters with a shoot takedown. Caballero fights it but they end up in guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Caballero wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

Jabroni tries to free his leg and advance position but Caballero is retaining full guard.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Jabroni takes a push kick to the midsection and stumbles backwards.

Caballero punishes Jabroni's body with a nice straight punch.
Jabroni lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
Caballero steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Jabroni.
Jabroni takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
Caballero throws a hook but Jabroni blocks it.
A good leg kick by Caballero.
Caballero connects with a single shot there.
Caballero throws a head kick that Jabroni semi-blocks.
Jabroni slips under a jab.
Jabroni shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Caballero defends it nicely.
Caballero throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.

Nice takedown defense from Caballero. No joy for Jabroni on that attempt.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Jabroni sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs.
David Caballero seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Jabroni loads up on a big right hand but Caballero slips the punch.

and Jabroni counters with a nice double leg into side control. Caballero won't be happy with that.

Caballero wants to control but Jabroni postures up.

Jabroni working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Jabroni advances nicely into full mount.
Caballero can't escape the position.
Jabroni breaks from Caballero's wrist control and lands an elbow.
Caballero wants to improve position but instead he's given up his back.
Even with his hooks in, Jabroni manages to miss with strikes from the back.
Ricardo Jabroni overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Jabroni trying desperately to keep hold of the dominant position.

Jabroni is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.

Caballero is staying cool under pressure, defending well against the rear naked choke attempt from his opponent.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!

Caballero is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.
Caballero throws a low kick but his opponent is out of range.
Jabroni is hobbling a little on that front leg after taking quite a few leg kicks so far in this fight.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Caballero, right into the meat.
Jabroni takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Caballero fails with an attempt to clinch.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Jabroni is defended easily by Caballero.
Caballero takes a swing at Jabroni's ribcage but misses.

Good leg kick by Caballero there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Danga de danga de dang - Jabroni scores with a four punch combination!
Caballero tries to clinch there but Jabroni circles away.
Caballero throws a shot from downtown. Jabroni moves away and avoids it.
Caballero bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Caballero throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Jabroni on the side of the head.

Caballero lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.

Caballero misses with a punch on the inside.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Jabroni dodges an elbow strike from Caballero.

Jabroni tries to stall but Caballero uses the opportunity to gain a better position.

Jabroni is trying to trip Caballero. He has hold of a leg but Caballero is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Jabroni persists though and gets the takedown into guard.

Caballero has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

Jabroni drops back looking for a leg! Caballero is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Caballero manages to kick Jabroni off! Jabroni jumps back into Caballero's guard.

Jabroni is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Caballero defends well.
Caballero wants to stand but Jabroni is controlling his posture from full guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

I would just about give that final round to David Caballero.
I think Caballero has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
