PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Bobby Briggs (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mick Gatto (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Bobby Briggs has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Bobby Briggs seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Mick Gatto!
The judges for this bout are David Schapiro, Chad Campbell and Anthony Taglia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Briggs shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Gatto as he avoids it easily.
Briggs definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
Gatto stuffs the takedown.
Gatto throws a head kick that Briggs semi-blocks.


It looks like Bobby Briggs has been cut.
Gatto lands a nice leg kick that just misses Briggs's sensitive parts.
Briggs gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Gatto counters with a nice low kick that buckles Briggs's knee momentarily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Bobby Briggs. That's going to take a lot out of him.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Gatto tries to land a leg kick but Briggs saw it coming and moves away.

Briggs shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Gatto but Gatto pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Gatto throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.
Briggs shoots in looking for a takedown. Gatto tries to sprawl out of it but Briggs keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Gatto manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Briggs has a takedown stuffed.

A telegraphed takedown attempt from Briggs is defended easily by Gatto.

Briggs decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Gatto manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Briggs manages to get himself to full guard.

Briggs can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Gatto controls the pace.
Briggs pulls Gatto in close to his closed guard and prevents Gatto from doing any damage or advancing position.

Gatto wants to get up but he can't break Briggs's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Gatto gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Briggs to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Briggs might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Gatto is trying to keep Briggs in close.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Gatto not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Mick Gatto was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Briggs shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Gatto pinned against the cage. Gatto gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Gatto throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.

Briggs closes the distance and clinches up with Gatto, looking for a takedown. Briggs pushes Gatto against the cage but Gatto circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Briggs throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Gatto's waist but Gatto gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Briggs off to one side.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Briggs chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Gatto can pounce on him.

Briggs will be looking to protect his midsection after taking some solid kicks to the body.
Briggs takes a kick to the body and keeps moving.
Gatto throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Briggs.

Mick Gatto seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Gatto defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Briggs.
Gatto connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
Gatto scores with a slapping inside leg kick.
Gatto lands a big head kick that sends Briggs to the canvas! Gatto follows up with strikes from the mount that forces the ref to step in and stop the fight!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:58 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Mick Gatto!
Mick Gatto decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
