PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Akseli Ukkola (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Caron (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Caron is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: "99 Problems". On his way into the cage it seems that Akseli Ukkola has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Akseli Ukkola seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Akseli Ukkola!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 6 - 1, fighting out of St Petersburg, John Caron!
The judges for this bout are Aleksandr Martynov, Sergei Dronov and Valeri Chadov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Caron tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Ukkola paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Caron misses with a wild combination.
Ukkola's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Caron connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Ukkola scrambles back to his feet.


It looks like Akseli Ukkola has been cut.
Ukkola takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Ukkola keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Horrible takedown by Ukkola or perhaps it was just good defense by Caron which made him look bad.
Caron throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Caron tries to clinch but Ukkola moves out of range.
Ukkola takes a shot right to the bread basket.
Caron tries to clinch but Ukkola is having none of it.
A looping hook to the body misses from Caron. Ukkola does a little dance to reset his feet.
Ukkola shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Caron sprawls well. Caron wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Ukkola gets slowly back to his feet.
Caron tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Ukkola manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Ukkola fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Caron to the ground. Ukkola is now in Caron's guard.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Ukkola works over Caron with some ground and pound from guard.

Ukkola has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Ukkola escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Caron gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Caron avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Ukkola working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Caron doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Caron manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Ukkola is looking for a triangle but Caron pushes his legs off easily.

Ukkola escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Caron gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Ukkola is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Ukkola is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Caron tries to stand but Ukkola is controlling from the bottom.
Ukkola trying to keep a closed guard but Caron is proving a slippery customer.
Ukkola tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Caron has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Ukkola is proving hard to escape from.
Caron engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Ukkola.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Caron sends Ukkola crashing to the mat with a devastating uppercut! Caron is motioning to the referee to let Ukkola up. He wants to try and finish this one on the feet!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Ukkola is defended easily by Caron.

Caron cracks Ukkola with a big right hand that sends him to the floor! Ukkola looks wobbly but he's sprung back up to his feet straight away… can Caron finish him?

Caron manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Ukkola manages to get himself to full guard.
Caron wanted to stand there but Ukkola had control of the position.
Caron is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.
Caron is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

Caron slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Caron wants to get up but he can't break Ukkola's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Caron dips down and scores with a jab to the body.

Caron ducks down and throws a hook to the body.

Caron clinches up with Ukkola and pushes him back against the cage.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Caron will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Ukkola up against the cage.

Caron's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

John Caron showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Caron's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.

Caron throws a low kick but his opponent is out of range.
Caron leaves Ukkola with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Caron lands a big head kick that sends Ukkola tumbling to the mat! Caron takes a step backwards and waves Ukkola back to his feet - he wants the finish!
Caron ducks down and throws a big overhand right - it lands flush on the jaw, knocking Ukkola out cold! The fight is over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:59 of round 3, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). John Caron!
After winning the bout, John Caron thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
