Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Barry Benson! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Derek Killler! The judges for this bout are Alexandre Firmino, Daniel Cesar and Felipe Paraventi.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Killler misses with an uppercut
and Benson counters with a shoot takedown. Killler fights it but they end up in guard. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. Benson is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact. Killler wants to sweep here but Benson controlling him for the moment. Killler looking for a guillotine here but Benson defends easily.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Benson trying to control but Killler is working from the bottom. Benson stands up over Killler, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head. Benson avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Benson stopping the sweep attempt from Killler. Benson is working Killler over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes. Benson working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Killler's head. Benson wants to control from the top but Killler keeps moving. Killler is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
That's one minute gone in the round. Benson cracks Killler with a solid left hand. Benson works over Killler with some ground and pound from guard. Benson got a little sloppy there for a moment and Killler has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Benson has managed to get both his arms back between Killler's legs - danger averted. Killler looks winded! Benson stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Killler swivels though and keeps the full guard. Benson scoring with punches to the head and body. Benson with a nice head shot there.
Killler is rocked! Benson wants to control from the top but Killler keeps moving. Killler has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Benson can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Benson landing with the ground and pound. Killler is still in real trouble! Can Benson finish him? We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Benson landing some decent shots from guard. Benson distracts Killler with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Benson lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard. Benson is in close to Killler's body, working some short punches and elbows. Benson gets to his feet and stands over Killler, holding his ankles. He dives in with a big left hand that connects! Killler felt that one! Benson unloads more punches and elbows and this one is over! The ref has dived in to save Killler from any more punishment!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:24 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Barry Benson!
