Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Hank Cox! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Akise Tachibana! The judges for this bout are Shigeki Fujiwara, Hirohito Nitta and Yasuomi Hirokawa.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Tachibana tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Cox manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat. Tachibana tries to bum rush Cox with a series of wild strikes but Cox uses good footwork to avoid the assault. Tachibana throws a one two combo.
Akise Tachibana seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Cox drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Tachibana is looking to regain half guard here but Cox keeps moving and retains side control. Tachibana tries to escape but Cox is in control. Cox postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
You can see the frustration on Tachibana's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Cox decides to stand back up.
That's one minute gone in the round. Tachibana throws a right and a left that Cox avoids nicely. Tachibana misses with a few strikes there.
Cox tries to clinch up. Tachibana's corner calls for a 1, 2 combination and Tachibana duly obliges.
Cox is rocked! Tachibana scores with a kick to the body.
A solid leg kick lands there for Tachibana.

Tachibana trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from! Cox gets to his feet. Tachibana looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son! Tachibana slaps away a takedown attempt from Cox, before circling back to the center of the mat. Nice sprawl there from Tachibana as Cox shoots in. This has been an exciting period of action! Cox throws a low kick but Tachibana avoids it.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Cox blocks the body kick.
Tachibana tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Cox manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat. Nice body kick from Tachibana. Tachibana shoots in for a takedown but Cox shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. Tachibana looks winded! Cox fails with an attempt to clinch.
Tachibana rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Cox moves out of range and avoids them all easily. Cox shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Tachibana sprawls well. Tachibana wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Cox gets slowly back to his feet. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Hank Cox. That's going to take a lot out of him. Tachibana connects with a leg kick. Cox looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it. Tachibana looks to score with a combo but nothing lands. Tachibana fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Tachibana moves into range and clinches up with Cox. Tachibana fails to pull the fight into his guard.

Tachibana would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard. Tachibana throwing strikes from guard but Cox blocks nicely. Cox is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Tachibana throws a strike but Cox rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top. Tachibana looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Tachibana throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land. Tachibana trying to keep a closed guard but Cox is proving a slippery customer.
Tachibana really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Cox. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Tachibana looking for a guillotine here but Cox defends easily.
Cox passes Tachibana's left leg - he's now in half guard. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Tachibana pushes Cox off but Cox dives into side control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Cox fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Tachibana throws a nice inside leg kick. Cox scores with a takedown into Tachibana's guard. Tachibana wants to stand up but Cox is controlling him. Cox trying to move into half guard but instead Tachibana has managed to sweep! Tachibana won't allow Cox to sweep him here. Cox lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Tachibana! The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Cox avoids the attempt from Tachibana to control. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's one minute gone in the round. A nice elbow there by Cox. Cox lands a big shot there that rocks Tachibana but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
Tachibana wants to hold on but Cox pushes him away. Tachibana is breathing heavily. Tachibana is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Cox is in the full mount, landing strikes.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Cox punishing his opponent with strikes. Tachibana tries to buck Cox off but he can't manage it. Cox stands up from the dominant position, so we're back on the feet. Tachibana is looking to clinch but Cox is avoiding it.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Cox passes into half guard. Tachibana trying to get back to full guard but Cox takes advantage of the position and moves to full mount! Tachibana is trying to get to the cage to help him get back to his feet.
Cox content just to control the position here. Cox working for a guillotine from mount but Tachibana is in no mood to give up. Cox trying to control but Tachibana is having none of it.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Cox unloading with bombs! Cox really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Cox controlling the pace for now. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Tachibana tries to improve his position but instead Cox has taken his back! And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Hank Cox dominated that second round. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!
Tachibana tries to land a front kick but Cox steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed. Cox closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Tachibana's guard. Cox engaging in some classic timewasting tactics. Tachibana looking for a sweep. Not yet Tachibana, not yet. Tachibana looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Cox passes into side control.
Cox looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. Tachibana is trying to get back to half guard. Tachibana takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
That's one minute gone in the round. Tachibana can't do much from the bottom here. Tachibana is trying to get back to half guard. You can see the frustration on Tachibana's face as Cox controls the position. Cox working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it. Tachibana can't do much from the bottom here.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Cox connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Tachibana some visible discomfort.
Cox lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face. Cox stands up. Tachibana misses with a two punch combination.
Tachibana gets caught napping as Cox dives in and scores a takedown. Tachibana manages to retain guard. This has been an exciting period of action! Tachibana wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Cox is now in half guard. Cox has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Tachibana defend it? Cox steps over the head and cranks it - Tachibana is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Cox!
