The judges for this bout are Anthony Taglia, Chad Campbell and Steve Montenegro.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Donaldson shoots in for a double leg but Macdonald sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Donaldson is trying hard to land a takedown here. Macdonald sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Donaldson tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Macdonald defends well and Donaldson ends up having to push Macdonald into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Waldo Macdonald has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mike Donaldson.

Donaldson tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Macdonald is fighting off a takedown attempt but Donaldson is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Macdonald to the mat. Macdonald regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Mike Donaldson hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Macdonald will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Donaldson dives in for a single leg takedown but Macdonald sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.

Donaldson fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Macdonald to the ground. Donaldson is now in Macdonald's guard.

Donaldson drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Macdonald dives on top into guard.

Donaldson had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Macdonald defends it easily.
Donaldson wants to stand but Macdonald is controlling the position.

Donaldson is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Macdonald is aware though and is defending well.
Macdonald wants to control from the top but Donaldson keeps moving.
