PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Dmitri Ruslanas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Steam Roller (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ruslanas comes to the cage accompanied by Hymn of the Soviet Union. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Steam Roller!
The judges for this bout are Vladimir Khabensky, Fedor Mirinova and Valeri Chadov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Roller wants to clinch up but Ruslanas keeps it at a distance.
Roller is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
Roller throws a poor cross that misses

and Ruslanas counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Roller's guard now.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

You can see the frustration on Roller's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Ruslanas wants to lay and pray for a moment but Roller keeps working.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Roller regains half guard.
Ruslanas is trying to control the action in half guard but Roller is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Ruslanas is breathing heavily.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Dmitri Ruslanas just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.
Roller shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

so Ruslanas counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Ruslanas wants to control from the top but Roller keeps moving.
Ruslanas won't allow Roller to sweep him here.
Ruslanas seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Ruslanas wants to pass the guard but Roller is keeping the position.

Roller has hold of Ruslanas's hands but Ruslanas slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Ruslanas perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Roller looks like he's trying to stand up.
Ruslanas wants to free his trapped foot but Roller is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Roller is looking to improve his position.

Ruslanas looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Ruslanas thows a huge punch but Roller dodges it nicely.
Roller is looking to improve his position.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Roller lands a nice leg kick that just misses Ruslanas's sensitive parts.

Ruslanas shoots in for a takedown and gets it.

Ruslanas is stalling here. Roller is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Ruslanas seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Roller has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.

Roller wants to stand but Ruslanas is controlling his arm.
Ruslanas is looking to regain half guard here but Roller keeps moving and retains side control.
Dmitri Ruslanas overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Roller decides to stand up, so the ref orders Ruslanas to his feet.
Roller feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Ruslanas's calf.

Roller is still in real trouble! Can Ruslanas finish him?
Roller takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.

Roller is looking for a sweep.
Ruslanas scores with punches from side control.

Ruslanas tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Ruslanas has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Roller manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Roller is looking to improve his position.
Ruslanas working over Roller with some ground and pound. Roller looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.

Ruslanas is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Ruslanas prevents Roller from standing back up.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Roller wants to get back to full guard.
Ruslanas seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!



Ruslanas is looking for a takedown. Wow, that's a brutal slam - Roller is in big trouble! Ruslanas is landing strikes from the mount and this one is all over! The ref jumps in to save a confused looking Roller. Poor guy.
