PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Chad Sugden (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Oliver Wassef (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Sugden comes to the cage accompanied by I'm shipping up to Boston. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Chad Sugden!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Oliver Wassef!
The judges for this bout are Yves DeLean, Alec Ball and Gregory Folan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Wassef rushes Sugden and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Sugden has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Sugden is trying to pull guard but Wassef has him pressed against the cage.

Wassef has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Sugden clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!
Wassef lands a punch that was close to the back of the head but the ref thinks it's OK.
Wassef punches the canvas rather than the man.
Sugden holding both Wassef 's hands and preventing any damage.

Sugden is very frustrated here, being controlled quite effectively by Wassef.
It looks like Wassef might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

Sugden covers up after taking a massive shot to the side of the head.
Wassef misses with punches from the back.
Even with his hooks in, Wassef manages to miss with strikes from the back.
Wassef gets his hooks in and is throwing strikes.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Wassef cracks Sugden with a big shot to body and one to the head - really punishing Sugden from the back mount here, looking to soften him up.
Wassef slows the pace down here. Having a little breather whilst he's in a dominant position, looking to rest and regain some energy, ready to go for the finish.

The referee is taking a good look at Sugden as he is on the wrong end of some big shots from Wassef!

Sugden is very frustrated here, being controlled quite effectively by Wassef.
Wassef lands with a couple of good shots - one to the side of the head and one questionable shot that could be viewed as to the back of the head but the referee lets it go.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Oliver Wassef hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Oliver Wassef showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Sugden's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


Sugden fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Wassef is out of range.

Wassef changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Sugden looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Wassef controls the position.

Wassef is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Sugden has escaped the position, nice work there.

Wassef sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Sugden is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Wassef remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Well Wassef has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
