Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Rickey Obrien (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mike Ortega (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mike Ortega told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Rickey Obrien! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mike Ortega! The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Wesley Smith and Tiny Johnson.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Ortega fails with a takedown attempt. Ortega closes the distance and clinches. Ortega fails to pull guard.
Obrien manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back. Obrien has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Ortega has passed into side control.
Obrien is trying to get back to half guard. Obrien sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard. Obrien wants to improve his position but Ortega is controlling well.
Ortega takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Obrien wants to control but Ortega is keeping busy and won't allow it. Obrien punching from the bottom.
Obrien works his way to full guard. Good work. Obrien looking for a sweep. Not yet Obrien, not yet. Obrien striking off his back but it's not causing Ortega any problems. Obrien looking for a sweep. Not yet Obrien, not yet. Ortega trying to control but Obrien is working from the bottom. Ortega drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Ortega jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Ortega preventing the sweep. Ortega is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Ortega accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Obrien throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
Obrien looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Obrien isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Ortega stacks Obrien on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Ortega! The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Obrien manages to work his way to half guard, despite Ortega's best efforts. Obrien manages to get to full guard.
Ortega slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard. Obrien looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Obrien is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Obrien keeping full guard, as Ortega tries to pass. Obrien looking to control.
Ortega would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Ortega with a poor takedown and Obrien counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Obrien. Rickey Obrien has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mike Ortega. Ortega prevents Obrien from breaking the clinch. Ortega prevents a takedown attempt there.
Obrien is breathing heavily. Obrien working on landing some head shots here - that one got through nicely. Ortega gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Obrien.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Ortega tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Obrien smiles and moves away.
Ortega closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard. Ortega trying to control the action but Obrien is working from the bottom. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Ortega not doing much here.
Ortega tries to stand but his arm is trapped. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Rickey Obrien will probably get the nod. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!
Ortega displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Obrien. Obrien rushes Ortega and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch. Ortega prevents a takedown attempt there.
Ortega tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Obrien avoids it. Obrien could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. Obrien breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Ortega misses with a takedown attempt and Obrien counters with an outside leg kick.
Ortega darts in trying to clinch and Obrien counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
That's one minute gone in the round. Ortega wants to hit a switch here but Obrien passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Ortega there! Ortega is trying to get to the cage to help him get back to his feet.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Obrien sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment. Obrien looking to secure an arm triangle but Ortega defends it well. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Ortega is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.
Obrien is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Ortega has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Ortega tries to buck Obrien off but he can't manage it. Ortega keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Obrien manages to capitalize on a mistake by Ortega to take his back! You can see the frustration on Ortega's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.
I would not like to be Ortega right now.
Obrien's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground. Obrien controlling well, preventing Ortega from escaping the position.
Obrien slows the pace down here. Having a little breather whilst he's in a dominant position, looking to rest and regain some energy, ready to go for the finish.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Ortega drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Rickey Obrien just wasn't active enough. Ortega tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Obrien paws at him with a jab and circles away. Ortega shoots in but no luck this time. Ortega shoots in but Obrien avoids the takedown attempt easily. Rickey Obrien has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mike Ortega. Ortega takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. Ortega tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Obrien defends well and Ortega ends up having to push Obrien into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Obrien ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Obrien no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard. Obrien is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Ortega won't allow Obrien to sweep him here. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Obrien is on top in guard.
Obrien slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

And that's the end of the fight! Rickey Obrien showed his dominance in that final round. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Obrien, winning every round. Will the judges agree?
