Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Enzo Starrwick! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Nik Reeder! The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Robert Douchet and William Peck.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Starrwick shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Starrwick showed some decent athleticism there. Starrwick tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Reeder. Reeder looking for submissions off his back. Reeder moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard. Reeder is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Starrwick controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling. Reeder working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Starrwick doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Starrwick manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Reeder working for a triangle but Starrwick defends it easily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Starrwick not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up. Reeder working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Starrwick doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Oh but Reeder is tightening it up a little... Starrwick has to be careful here... He's got his foot tucked under now, this looks tight! Starrwick reacted too slowly and this one could be over in a matter of seconds! YES! Starrwick taps out! Nice BJJ there by Reeder!
