The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
No luck with that takedown attempt from Sakuraba.
Roll throws a head kick that half lands.
Roll misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Sakuraba with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Roll to score with a decent uppercut.

Sakuraba shoots in and drives through. Roll sprawls well.
Roll lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Sakuraba shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Roll as he avoids it easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Kazushi Sakuraba. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Roll pulls out of a head kick attempt.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Roll shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Sakuraba moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Sakuraba is working for submissions here. He's thrown up his legs looking for a triangle but Roll frees his head nicely. Oh but Sakuraba has switched to an armbar! Roll is tapping furiously! Lovely submission there!
