Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
8 - 6 - 1, fighting out of St Petersburg, Kolo Cornelius! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
13 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, John Haigh! The judges for this bout are Illya Tyunina, Viktor Lagutenko and Valeri Chadov.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Haigh thows a left - swing and a miss! Haigh goes for a double leg but Cornelius avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Cornelius continues to drive forward. Cornelius just leaning against Haigh, taking a breather. Haigh has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Cornelius uses from the top position. The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet. Haigh is trying to control the position but Cornelius postures up. Cornelius is stalling in the full guard. Haigh is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Cornelius is aware though and is defending well. Cornelius controlling from the top position. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Cornelius wants to control from the top but Haigh keeps moving. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Cornelius avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Haigh is looking for a triangle but Cornelius pushes his legs off easily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Haigh working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Cornelius doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Cornelius manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Haigh looking to try and escape his hips here, looking for a submission. It looks like he's going for a triangle but Cornelius is defending well. Haigh quickly switches to an armbar and extends the arm! Cornelius has no choice but to tap, to a very quick submission! Wow, that was lightning fast! Haigh celebrates on the cage, with the crowd.
