The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Anthony dives in and grabs Pearse's left leg, looking for a takedown. Pearse pushes down on Anthony's head and hops out.
Nice uppercut lands for Pearse. That snapped Anthony's head back.
Pearse dips to his left and cracks Anthony with an uppercut!
Anthony shoots in for a takedown but Pearse shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Pearse looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Anthony fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Stephen Anthony. That's going to take a lot out of him.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Anthony changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Pearse tries to avoid it but Anthony manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Pearse to the ground. Pearse escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Anthony avoids the head kick by Pearse.
Anthony jabs away that one connects to the head of his opponent.
Anthony fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Pearse avoids it really well and circles away.

Pearse told us pre-fight that he has been working on his escapes in training. Let's see if he can call on some of his new skills to get back to his feet.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Pearse bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Anthony's guard.

Anthony closes this distance looking for a takedown but Pearse circles away.

Pearse digs a right hand underneath Anthony's ribcage. Anthony let out a lung full of air as it connected.

Pearse throws a big uppercut that drops Anthony! More strikes from Pearse and the referee jumps in to stop the fight! Anthony lies dazed against the cage as Pearse celebrates with his cornermen!
