PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jorge Dennis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Surfer Dude (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Dennis comes into the arena with Bark at the moon blaring out of the sound system. Dude has chosen The Trashmen - Surfin' Bird as his entrance music. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 20 - 14 - 1, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jorge Dennis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 16 - 7 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Surfer Dude!
The judges for this bout are Thiago Cunha, Alexandre Firmino and Edson Gomes.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dennis defending well as Dude loads up on a big left hand.
Dennis shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Dude as he jumps to the side.
Dude keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Dude pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Dennis fails with a takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jorge Dennis. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Dude thumps Dennis with a low kick.
Dennis misses with a takedown attempt
and Dude counters with a straight right hand.
Dude pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Dude jabs Dennis right on the nose. Dennis blinks but takes it well.

Dennis doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Dude counters by clinching up.
With the fighters clinched against the cage, Dude creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.
Dennis blocks an uppercut.
Dude is pressed up against the cage. Dennis has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Dude down to the mat. Dude avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Dude looks to land a combination but Dennis avoids it well.
Dennis changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Dude tries to avoid it but Dennis manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Dude to the ground. Dude escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Dennis throws a series of punches but Dude moves out of range.
Dennis shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Dude paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.

and Dennis counters with a shoot takedown. Dude fights it but they end up in guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Dennis being controlled here momentarily.
Dennis pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Dude is keeping the position for now.

Dude utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Dennis accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Dennis won't allow Dude to sweep him here.
We've been hearing that Dennis has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish.
Dennis is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Dude looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
Dude has been taking part in the yoga sessions down at Seventh House. Presumably he's going to look for a slick submission... Or maybe he's looking to avoid one.
Dude is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Surfer Dude.
Dude lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Dennis at a distance.
Dennis shoots in but Dude avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Dude moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
Dennis uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Dude.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Dude throws a nice looking combination but Dennis bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

Dennis scores with a takedown into Dude's guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Dude wants to sweep but no luck.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Surfer Dude dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Dude lands with a thumping leg kick.
A jab from Dude misses.
Dude throws a sloppy head kick and Dennis moves out of range easily.
Dennis doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Dude counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Dennis is lucky that one didn't land flush.
Dennis looks for a takedown but Dude sprawls well.
Dude stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Dude wants it to stay on the feet.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Dennis throws a big right hand that misses.
Dennis forces his way into half guard.
Dude is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Dennis scores with a couple of nice shots.
The fighters are battling for position here. Dude manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

Dennis is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Dude is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Dude has escaped and now he's on top!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Dude wants to get up but he can't break Dennis's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Jorge Dennis overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Dennis working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Dude doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Dude manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Dennis has his foot on Dude's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Dude works his way back into a safe position though.

and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.

Dude closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Dude tries to throw a body punch but Dennis avoids it by throwing Dude back against the cage.

Dennis is rocked!
Dude pushes Dennis back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head.
Oh Dennis is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Dude scores with an uppercut up the middle.
Dude dips a shoulder and cracks Dennis with a mighty uppercut! Dennis falls back against the cage and Dude unloads with a barrage of strikes! Dennis is completely out with his eyes open, only supported by the cage! Save him ref! Eventually the ref decides to do his job and jumps in - Dude screams abuse at the incompetent official before going over to celebrate with his corner. Brutal stuff!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:27 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Surfer Dude!
During a confident post fight interview, Surfer Dude thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
The defeated Jorge Dennis had this to say: 'Bom, o que eu tenho a dizer é que Ice Man está de parabéns, tive alguns problemas nos meus treinamentos, mas não é desculpa ele é realmente bom e merece o cinturão.'.
