PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mike Mad (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Phil Evans (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Evans has chosen Thunder Kiss '65 as his entrance music. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Mike Mad!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Phil Evans!
The judges for this bout are Bart Greer, Peter Branson and Dirk Anderson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A slow jab from Evans misses its intended target.
Evans moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.
Evans works Mad's body with a nice hook.
Mad swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Evans counters with a nice body shot.
Evans swings for the body but Mad moves out of range.
Mad jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Evans dodges the punch combination from Mad.
Evans scores with the left hand. Mad knows he should have avoided that one.

Mad takes the fight into the clinch.
Evans misses with the head strike.
Evans tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.
A head punch blocked on the inside by Mad.
Mad has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Evans after a bit of a struggle.

Mad pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Mad takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Mad blocks a leg kick.

Mad takes the fight into the clinch.
Mad controlling the action here for a moment.
Mad swings away with an uppercut that misses.

Mad breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Evans listening to his corner there, landing a nice uppercut.
Mad fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Mad dives in and grabs Evans's left leg, looking for a takedown. Evans pushes down on Mad's head and hops out.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mike Mad. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Evans scores with a jab.
Phil Evans seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Evans throws a leg kick but Mad moved away.

Evans misses with a head kick.
Evans cracks Mad with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.
Mad tries to score a power double leg takedown but Evans sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Mad somewhat.
Mad throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Mad fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Evans bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
Evans fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.
Evans throws out a loose jab but Mad uses good head movement to avoid it.
Evans lands a jab to Mad's midsection.
Evans is landing a lot of head punches in this opening round! Mad had better start moving his head a bit unless he wants his face to turn into pâté.
Evans dips down and scores with a jab to the body.

Mad gets a clinch.
Mad fails to pull guard.

Mad's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Mad takes a body punch but keeps moving.
Phil Evans is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Evans lands with a shot to the body.
Evans dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Evans lands with a right hand.
Evans keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Mad misses with a takedown attempt - Evans sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Mad shoots in for a takedown but Evans shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Evans connects with a right hand. Mad shakes it off.
Mad looks for a takedown but Evans sprawls well.
Evans throws a low kick but Mad avoids it.
Evans scores with a nice right hand.
Mad takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
Nice uppercut lands for Evans. That snapped Mad's head back.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Nice takedown defense from Evans. No joy for Mad on that attempt.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Evans connects with a good right hand that stumbles Mad. Mad circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
Mad darts in looking for a takedown but Evans gets double underhooks and turns Mad into the cage.
Mad keeps control of Evans as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Evans tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.
Mad stalls.
Mad is trying to pull guard but Evans turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.

Mad ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Mad no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Evans wants to control from the top but Mad keeps moving.
Mad is trying to control the position but Evans postures up.
Evans wants to get up but he can't break Mad's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Mad is looking to stand up but Evans isn't so interested in that idea.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Mad looking to hit a scissor sweep but Evans is one step ahead there.
Evans wants to control from the top but Mad keeps moving.
Evans advances position into side control!
Mad is trying to control Evans's posture but Evans avoids it.
Mad is trying to get back to half guard.

Mad on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Mad tries to get out of the position.

Mad tries to buck Evans off but Evans is having none of it.

Evans looks up at the clock and then as Mad takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Evans smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!

Evans has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

A telegraphed right hand from Evans misses the target.
Evans throws the left hand but Mad avoids the punch easily.

Mad takes a jab right on the kisser.
Evans connects with a single shot there.
Mad fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
A lazy left from Evans finds it's target.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Evans misses with a hook. Mad ducked under it nicely.
Mad looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Evans is fending him off so far but Mad persists. Nope, Evans circles away and we're back to standing.

Mad closes the distance and clinches.
Mad just leaning against Evans, taking a breather.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Phil Evans showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Evans walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Mad checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.
Nice shot by Evans.
Mad tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Evans was well out of range. Poor timing from Mad.
Mad throws a low kick but Evans avoids it.
Mad walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Mad takes a shot right to the bread basket.
Evans scores with a hook to the body. Mad takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
Mad goes for a double leg but Evans avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Evans continues to drive forward.

Mad escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Evans lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Mad circles away quickly and effectively.
Evans keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Mike Mad is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Mad swings away with a leg kick that misses.
Evans loads up on a big right hand but Mad slips the punch.

Decent striking displayed by Evans there.
Phil Evans seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Mad shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Evans as he jumps to the side.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mike Mad. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
The fight stays on the outside here - Mad looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Evans throws the kick towards the body but Mad avoids it.
Evans misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.

Mad is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Evans to keep the fight standing.

Mad throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Evans's waist but Evans gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Mad off to one side.

Mad misses with a body shot
and Evans counters with a three punch combo that has Mad backing up. Mad nods at Evans to acknowledge the strikes.
Evans connects with a crisp jab.
Evans waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Mad.
Nice shot lands for Evans.

Mad has managed to clinch.
With the two fighters working up against the cage, Evans just misses with a elbow thrown towards Mad's brow.
Phil Evans is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Mad blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
Mad can't find room to land a body shot as Evans controls the action.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Mad.
Mad goes for a takedown attempt but Evans pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

Mad takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Mike Mad has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Phil Evans comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Evans winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
