With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Shane O Leary!
The judges for this bout are Dirk Anderson, David Hoff and Sandra Marshall.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

O Leary drives through and clinches with Simpson against the cage.
Simpson definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.

Simpson has picked O Leary up - he's going for a ride! Simpson dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Simpson seems to be working for a kimura but O Leary defends the submission attempt.
Simpson wants to free his trapped foot but O Leary is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Simpson perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

O Leary wants to get back to his feet.

Simpson stands and throws O Leary's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Simpson thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
O Leary is looking for a sweep.

Simpson tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.

Simpson wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by O Leary, who protects the arm well.

This has been an exciting period of action!

O Leary tries to get back to half guard but can't.
O Leary is still trying to improve position.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

Simpson is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. O Leary knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Simpson working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

O Leary is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Simpson has just dragged him back down to the mat.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
O Leary is looking to regain half guard here but Simpson keeps moving and retains side control.
Simpson has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for O Leary!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Simpson remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Simpson is going oldschool here, as he tries to force O Leary to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so O Leary shrugs it off.
Simpson forces the positional change into back control.

O Leary defends a prolonged rear naked choke attempt and turns nicely into his opponent's guard.

Homer Simpson overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

O Leary is fighting to break Simpson's control of his arms but Simpson is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
