The bell rings for round one and we are underway! William slaps away a takedown attempt from Rodriguez, before circling back to the center of the mat. Rodriguez instigates a clinch. William avoiding damage as Rodriguez throws knees to the body.

William pulls guard effortlessly. Rodriguez tries to free his leg and advance position but William is retaining full guard. Rodriguez's corner is telling him to maintain position. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. William looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Chris Rodriguez. William shoots in but no luck this time. William escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

William really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Rodriguez. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. William throws an elbow that misses. Rodriguez uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in William's guard. Nice move by Rodriguez! Rodriguez stands and steps away. William gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game. Rodriguez dives in and grabs William's left leg, looking for a takedown. William pushes down on Rodriguez's head and hops out. William takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.
It looks like Jake William has been cut. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Rodriguez goes for a double leg but William avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as William continues to drive forward. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Rodriguez pulls guard. Rodriguez is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

William sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
