The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Hayashi is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Takayanagi. Meguru Takayanagi seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Hayashi doesn't succeed with the takedown and Takayanagi counters with a takedown into side control. Takayanagi wants to lay and pray for a moment but Hayashi keeps working. Takayanagi working away. Takayanagi scoring with punches and elbows. Takayanagi lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Hayashi down.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Hayashi wants to get back to his feet but Takayanagi drags him back down. Hayashi is looking to reverse the position. The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring. Takayanagi works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head. Takayanagi looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. Hayashi is working to avoid the ground and pound but Takayanagi connects with a decent elbow.
That's one minute gone in the round. Takayanagi tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Takayanagi has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! Hayashi takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better. Hayashi tries to escape back to his feet but Takayanagi has kept hold of him... Oh, now he's got Hayashi's back and is looking for the choke... Is it? Is it sunk in? YES! Hayashi is tapping! Takayanagi saw the opportunity and took it - ruthless!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:43 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Meguru Takayanagi! Meguru Takayanagi retains his featherweight title! Meguru Takayanagi seemed lost for words in his post fight interview but he remembered to thank his fans and directed everyone to his website.
