PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between John Doe (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Joe Hay (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, John Doe!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Joe Hay!
The judges for this bout are Reed Andrews, Alyssa Summers and David Schapiro.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Hay looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Hay thows a big elbow that misses, also allowing Doe to regain full guard.
Doe trying to control the position.
Doe keeping moving, preventing Hay from controlling successfully.

Doe is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Doe is breathing heavily.
Doe avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Hay with a flurry of punches that miss.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Hay working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
Hay stands up over Doe, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

Hay passes Doe's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Doe on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Hay working over Doe with some ground and pound. Doe looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
Hay winds up and cracks Doe with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Hay thows a huge punch but Doe dodges it nicely.
Hay drops an elbow to the side of Doe's head.
Hay working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Hay uses his free foot to push down on Doe's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Doe.
Hay cracks Doe with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Hay fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
Doe is bucking up trying to escape but Hay cracks him with another couple of good strikes.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.

Doe wants to hold on but Hay pushes him away.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Hay breaks from Doe's wrist control and lands an elbow.
Doe is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Hay is in the full mount, landing strikes.
Hay lands a nice shot to the head.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Doe is trying to escape the mount.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Hay cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Doe's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

and Hay counters with a shoot takedown. Doe fights it but they end up in guard.

Hay stands up and waves to Doe to follow him.

Hay feints and as Doe raises his hands in defense, Hay changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Doe has momentary wrist control but Hay slips an elbow through the middle.
Doe looking to control.
Hay throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Doe works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Hay wants to control from the top but Doe keeps moving.

Hay feints and as Doe raises his hands in defense, Hay changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Doe is working an open guard so Hay takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Doe lands with a nice combination. Hay backs away looking to recover.

Hay clinches up with Doe and pushes him back against the cage.
Doe wants to break the clinch but can't.
Doe has had enough of the clinch but Hay keeps him there for the moment.

Doe escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
John Doe is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Hay misses with a combination
and Doe counters with an outside leg kick.

Hay instigates a clinch.
Hay misses with a short punch on the inside.
Hay tries to work over Doe's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
Doe has Hay pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Hay manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Doe lands a body shot in the clinch.
Doe misses with a punch to the body.

Hay jumps into guard, dragging Doe to the mat.
Hay looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Doe puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
Doe seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.
Hay lands one or two decent shots to the body here. Although from his own half guard, he's not going to be causing too much damage.
Doe thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Hay is pressing down on Doe's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

Doe won't allow Hay to sweep him here.
Hay doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
Doe is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Hay tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Hay has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.
Doe shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Hay stands up from guard. Let's bang!

A punch combination from Hay misses.
Doe wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
Doe bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Hay's head backwards.
Hay dips to his left and cracks Doe with an uppercut!
Doe tries to clinch there but Hay circles away.
Doe has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Doe there as he acknowledges the shot.
Hay fails in his attempt to clinch.
Hay avoids a punch combination nicely.
Hay will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Hay misses with a series of wild punches.
Hay tries to grapple but his opponent circles
and Doe counters with a big head kick but Hay shrugs it off.

Doe lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
Doe has his takedown stuffed

and Hay counters with a nice double leg into half guard.

Hay seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

Hay is looking for a kimura but Doe is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Hay to get the leverage.

Hay is trying to advance to mount but he's lost his balance and Doe reverses the position - he's now on top in Hay's guard.

Hay lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Doe!

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
BOOM! Hay connects with a massive shot to the dome!
