PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Rich Castellano (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jackie Rouisey (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Castellano's entrance music is Kenny Loggins - Danger Zone. A fine choice. Rouisey has chosen Edwin Starr - War as his entrance music. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Rich Castellano!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jackie Rouisey!
The judges for this bout are Damien Edna, Ben Hemmingworth and Hugh Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Castellano changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Rouisey tries to avoid it but Castellano manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Rouisey to the ground. Rouisey escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Rouisey tests Castellano's chin there with a solid looking shot.

Castellano changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Rouisey looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
You can see the frustration on Rouisey's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Rouisey is looking for a sweep.
The referee asks Castellano politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Castellano prefers to stall for the moment though.

Castellano looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Castellano is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Rouisey will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.
Castellano is looking to take a break and control but Rouisey is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Rouisey tries to escape but Castellano is in control.

Castellano misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Rouisey is looking to regain half guard here but Castellano keeps moving and retains side control.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Rich Castellano just wasn't active enough.
Rouisey bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
Rouisey connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Castellano's hands.
Castellano shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Castellano throws a leg kick but Rouisey sees it coming and checks it nicely.
Rouisey's jab looks to have found its range, popping Castellano under the eye.
Castellano tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
Castellano slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.
Rouisey lands a glancing blow to the side of Castellano's head.

Castellano blocks a head kick by Rouisey.
Castellano keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Rouisey throws a shot from downtown. Castellano moves away and avoids it.
Castellano shoots in and drives through. Rouisey sprawls well.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Rich Castellano. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Rouisey gets caught napping as Castellano dives in and scores a takedown. Rouisey manages to retain guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Castellano's corner is telling him to maintain position.

Rouisey is looking for a triangle but Castellano pushes his legs off easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Rich Castellano will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Rouisey goes for a high kick. It partially lands.
Rouisey has been working his punching technique in the buildup to the fight and it appears to be paying off.
Castellano moves out of range as Rouisey throws a body kick.
Castellano fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Rouisey avoids it really well and circles away.
Castellano shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Rouisey but Rouisey pushes him off and we're back to square one.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Rich Castellano.

Rouisey is refusing to be controlled, as Castellano sits in half guard.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

Castellano's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Rouisey is looking for a sweep. Castellano is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Jackie Rouisey has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Castellano in particular looking to stall.
Rouisey is trying to stand up here but Castellano is controlling him well.

Rouisey is looking to control Castellano's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Rouisey avoid being mounted?

We're going to have a standup here because Rich Castellano wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.

Castellano shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Rouisey pinned against the cage. Rouisey gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Rouisey throws a nice outside leg kick.
Rouisey takes a swing at Castellano's ribcage but misses.
Castellano shoots for a double leg takedown but Rouisey sprawls well. He's pushed Castellano's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Castellano closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Rouisey quickly recovers to half guard.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Castellano, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
