Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Chris Weidman! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Cicero Santos! The judges for this bout are Matheus Silva, Seu Braga and Daniel Cesar.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Weidman fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Weidman clinches. Weidman tries a knee to the head but he's missed.
Weidman manages to pull guard.
Santos won't allow Weidman to sweep him here. Weidman escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Santos gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Santos trying to control the position from guard on top but Weidman is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Santos scoring with punches to the head and body. Santos cracks Weidman with a solid left hand. Weidman seems keen to control Santos's posture. Weidman throwing strikes off his back to little effect.
That's one minute gone in the round. Santos throws a big elbow that misses. Santos throws a big right hand that misses. Santos wants to control from the top but Weidman keeps moving. Santos lands a couple of elbows. Weidman has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Santos can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Santos trying to control but Weidman is working from the bottom. Weidman has managed to work for a loose triangle. I think Santos should be able to defend this one pretty easily though. Oh, Weidman has tightened it up now! Santos should have reacted faster there - he's in big trouble and yes, he's tapped out! This one is all over!
