Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Ben Zaylor (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Craig Wardlaw (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Craig Wardlaw told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the featherweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
9 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ben Zaylor! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Craig Wardlaw! The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Alan Glass and Tiny Johnson.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Zaylor gets in close and instigates a clinch. Zaylor is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Wardlaw is defending well. Zaylor is looking to break free of the clinch but Wardlaw has double underhooks. Wardlaw is looking to take this one to the mat. Zaylor is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though. Wardlaw stops a takedown attempt from Zaylor.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ben Zaylor. That's going to take a lot out of him. Come on Zaylor - let's have some action - none of this stalling nonsense.
Zaylor digs a right hand underneath Wardlaw's ribcage. Wardlaw let out a lung full of air as it connected. Good anti-grappling being displayed by Wardlaw as Zaylor tries to tie him up. Zaylor gets underhooks to prevent Wardlaw's takedown attempt.
Wardlaw wants to take the fight to the mat but Zaylor manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch. Zaylor is trying to stall.
Wardlaw drops down looking for an ankle pick but Zaylor pulls his leg out and moves away.
That's one minute gone in the round. Wardlaw fails to land the takedown. Zaylor fails with an attempt to clinch.
Zaylor fails in his attempt to clinch. Zaylor moves into the clinch. Zaylor prevents a takedown attempt there.
Zaylor gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Wardlaw.
Zaylor makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Wardlaw tries to score a body lock takedown but Zaylor shows good agility there to stay on his feet. A shot in the inside from Zaylor. Wardlaw looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights. Wardlaw wants to take the fight to the mat but Zaylor manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch. Zaylor drags the fight down to the ground.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup. Wardlaw throwing strikes but missing. Zaylor working a defensive guard here.
Wardlaw with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal. Zaylor tries to land a sweep but no joy. Zaylor bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Wardlaw's guard. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Zaylor drops back looking for a leg! Wardlaw is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Wardlaw manages to kick Zaylor off! Zaylor jumps back into Wardlaw's guard. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Wardlaw can do anything to dispel that myth. Zaylor slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Wardlaw lands an upkick as Zaylor stands over him. Zaylor drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Zaylor jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Wardlaw looking to hit a scissor sweep but Zaylor is one step ahead there. Zaylor trying to control the position from guard on top but Wardlaw is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Wardlaw is trying to control the position from the bottom.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Zaylor trying to control but Wardlaw is working from the bottom.
The ref stands the fighters back up because Ben Zaylor just wasn't active enough. Zaylor wants to clinch up but Wardlaw keeps it at a distance. Wardlaw throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Zaylor tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Wardlaw is in Zaylor's guard. Zaylor looking to hit a scissor sweep but Wardlaw is one step ahead there. Zaylor is working for submissions here. He's thrown up his legs looking for a triangle but Wardlaw frees his head nicely. Oh but Zaylor has switched to an armbar! Wardlaw is tapping furiously! Lovely submission there!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:44 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle Armbar). Ben Zaylor! Ben Zaylor is the new featherweight champion! Ben Zaylor seemed lost for words in his post fight interview but he remembered to thank his fans and directed everyone to his website.
