Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Yoshi Doi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Zachary Mendoza (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mendoza has chosen Back For More as his entrance music. Yoshi Doi has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Yoshi Doi!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 15 - 13 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Zachary Mendoza!
The judges for this bout are Yasuomi Hirokawa, Taro Takaoka and Sosuke Kotani.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Doi shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Doi shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Doi showed some decent athleticism there.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Mendoza is looking for a sweep. Doi is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The fighters are battling for position here. Mendoza manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Mendoza looking to hit a scissor sweep but Doi is one step ahead there.

Mendoza is looking for a triangle but Doi pushes his legs off easily.

Mendoza is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Doi defends well.
Doi tries to stand but Mendoza is controlling from the bottom.

Mendoza wants to get back to his feet but Doi is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Doi is taking a breather. Mendoza says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Doi's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Yoshi Doi wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Doi is trying hard to land a takedown here. Mendoza sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

Doi shoots for a takedown but Mendoza saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Doi's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Doi changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Mendoza tries to avoid it but Doi manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Mendoza to the ground. Mendoza escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

and Doi counters with a shoot takedown. Mendoza fights it but they end up in guard.
Mendoza has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Doi has passed into side control.

Doi has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Mendoza stuffs the takedown attempt from Doi. Doi gets slowly back to his feet.
Doi shoots in for a takedown but Mendoza shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Yoshi Doi seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Mendoza stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Mendoza wants it to stay on the feet.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Doi tries to close the distance and clinch but Mendoza swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Mendoza looks to land a right hand but Doi moved out of range.

Doi will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Mendoza throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Doi.

Mendoza goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

It looks like Yoshi Doi has been cut.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
Doi shoots in looking for a takedown but Mendoza manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Doi's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Zachary Mendoza will probably get the nod.

Mendoza avoids a low kick by using good footwork.

Mendoza wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
Mendoza throws a hook to the side of Doi's head but Doi sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Doi tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Mendoza defends well and Doi ends up having to push Mendoza into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Our sources have told us that Doi has been working on his knees in the buildup to the fight.

Mendoza breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
A looping hook to the body misses from Mendoza. Doi does a little dance to reset his feet.

Mendoza felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Yoshi Doi.
Doi takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.

Mendoza leaves Doi with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Doi shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Mendoza is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Doi's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Doi's back!

Mendoza has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Doi has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!

Doi shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Mendoza pinned against the cage. Mendoza gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Doi shoots in but no luck this time.
Mendoza stuffs the takedown attempt from Doi. Doi gets slowly back to his feet.

Doi goes for a double leg but Mendoza avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Mendoza continues to drive forward.

Doi wants to break free but Mendoza has control.
Doi jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Mendoza walks away with a smile on his face. Doi gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Doi is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Mendoza's half guard.

Mendoza kicks Doi off and gets back to his feet.
Doi misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Mendoza comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Mendoza thows a body shot but no joy.
Doi walks into a stiff left hand from Mendoza.
Doi ducks under a wild hook from Mendoza.
Mendoza throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Mendoza tests Doi's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Doi looks for a takedown but Mendoza sprawls well.

Doi throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Mendoza tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Doi is in Mendoza's guard.

Mendoza has managed to wall walk up one of the corner posts to get back to his feet. Doi is pushing him up against the cage, looking to control the position.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Doi escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Doi shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Mendoza pinned against the cage. Mendoza gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Mendoza connects with the punch.
Mendoza lunges at Doi with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Doi's hand.

Mendoza gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Doi to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Mendoza bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Doi's guard.

Mendoza stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Doi swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

Doi pushes Mendoza off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
Mendoza throws a right and a left that Doi avoids nicely.
Doi shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Mendoza throws a lazy right hand but Doi sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Doi with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Mendoza to score with a decent uppercut.
Doi shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Mendoza as he avoids it easily.

Mendoza manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

Doi tries to lock up and control but Mendoza gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Doi is in a bad position, trying to hold on for dear life but he is really struggling to maintain any sort of control.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

I would just about give that final round to Zachary Mendoza.
I've got Mendoza winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
