Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Georgio Socrates (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ricardo Monteban (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Socrates kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Tool - Schism. Man, I cannot wait for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Georgio Socrates!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ricardo Monteban!
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Alan Glass and Wesley Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Socrates lands a jab to Monteban's midsection.
Socrates thows a body shot but no joy.

Socrates has taken the fight to the clinch.
Monteban is trying to maintain a safe position but Socrates gets an underhook and turns Monteban into the cage.
Monteban throws a head punch that misses.
Monteban blocks a body shot from Socrates.

Socrates breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Monteban drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.
Socrates lands with a nice body kick.
Socrates wants to clinch.
Monteban is trying hard to land a takedown here. Socrates sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Socrates tries a head kick but it misses.

Socrates tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Monteban manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Socrates shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Monteban defends it nicely.
Socrates shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Socrates misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Monteban keeps the fight on the outside.
Monteban bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Socrates is looking to clinch but Monteban is avoiding it.
Socrates fails to land the takedown.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Georgio Socrates. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Socrates closes the distance but Monteban moves to the side

and Monteban counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Socrates pulls Monteban in close to prevent any damage.
Socrates will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Socrates wants to sweep but no luck.
Socrates looking to control but Monteban passes into half guard.
Monteban wants to take a breather but Socrates is having none of it.
Socrates is looking for a sweep. Monteban is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Socrates has his hands clasped together around Monteban's back. He's all about the action.

Monteban wants to pass to mount but Socrates is defending the position.
Monteban stalling away here and it's allowed Socrates to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.
Monteban tries to free his leg and advance position but Socrates is retaining full guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Socrates controls Monteban momentarily but Monteban frees himself.
Socrates wants to sweep but no luck.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Socrates has gone for a leg lock! Monteban slips out almost immediately though and dives into Socrates's guard.
Monteban forces his way into half guard.

Monteban working to pass to mount. He's got his hand pressing down on Socrates's thigh. Socrates counters though and makes it back to full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Socrates manages to create a bit of space in order to work his way back to his feet. Monteban keeps hold of his opponent and drives him back against the cage.
Socrates is pushing Monteban up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.
Socrates has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Monteban is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Socrates tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Monteban avoids it.
Socrates is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
A nice right hand lands inside from Socrates.

Socrates is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace.

Socrates is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Monteban can't fight it off and eventually Socrates manages to take the fight to the floor. Monteban looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Socrates has gone for a leg lock! Monteban slips out almost immediately though and dives into Socrates's guard.
Monteban is fighting to break Socrates's control of his arms but Socrates is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Monteban trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Socrates wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Monteban is now in half guard.

Monteban prevents Socrates from improving his position.
Monteban is keen to just control but Socrates is a slippery customer.
Socrates is trying to stand up here but Monteban is controlling him well.

so Monteban counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Socrates bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Monteban's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Socrates stands and steps away. Monteban gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Socrates throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.

Monteban gets tackled into the cage by Socrates. Socrates maintains the clinch.
Socrates has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Monteban avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Monteban jumps guard but Socrates turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Monteban on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Socrates is looking to chop away at Monteban's legs.
Ricardo Monteban has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Monteban shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Socrates manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Socrates wants to stand but Monteban is controlling the position.
Socrates is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Georgio Socrates is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Socrates looking for subs off his back but Monteban has passed one foot through into half guard.
Socrates is looking to get back to is feet but Monteban passes into side control.
Socrates avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Monteban.
Monteban scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Socrates to see if he's OK.

Monteban tries to advance to mount but Socrates instead regains half guard.
Monteban is thwarting Socrates's attempts to control the position.
Monteban missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Monteban is working for a submission of some sort.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Georgio Socrates.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Socrates, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
