PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Phil Laak (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Worf Roshenko (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Phil Laak has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Phil Laak seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Worf Roshenko!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Laak clinches up against the cage.
Come on Laak - let's have some action - none of this stalling nonsense.
Laak is trying to stall.

Laak pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Laak showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Roshenko.

Roshenko feints and as Laak raises his hands in defense, Roshenko changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Roshenko stands and throws Laak's legs to the side, diving into side control.
You can see the frustration on Laak's face as Roshenko controls the position.
Roshenko is putting a hurting on Laak here, landing some big shots from side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Laak is pushing Roshenko's head away, looking to escape. Roshenko manages to hold on to the position though.

Roshenko tries for a kimura but Laak is defending well.
Laak might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Roshenko tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Roshenko has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Laak is trying to control Roshenko's posture but Roshenko avoids it.
Laak knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Roshenko on the ground.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Laak takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Laak is not in a great position here, taking some shots.

Roshenko has an Americana. Laak didn't react quickly enough there and he's in big trouble now! He tries to squirm out but is forced to tap! Roshenko is delighted and gyrates in front of the ring girls. They seem to like the attention - it'll be interesting to see if Roshenko hooks up with any of them at the after show party.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:30 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Worf Roshenko!
