Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Tom Maverick (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Frank Mir (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mir is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Kanye West - Amazing ft. Young Jeezy . Tom Maverick has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Frank Mir!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Jack Bonds and Timothy Bukovac.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mir has managed to clinch.
Maverick connects with a nasty looking knee right to Mir's face.
Mir wants to break free but Maverick has control.
Maverick pulls Mir into guard.
Mir distracts Maverick with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Mir working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
Mir stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Maverick swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Mir lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Mir lands a couple of elbows.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Mir throws a big elbow that misses.
Mir gets to his feet. Maverick looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Maverick slaps away a takedown attempt from Mir, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Mir fails to land the takedown.
Maverick tries to close the distance and clinch up but Mir swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Mir dives in and grabs Maverick's left leg, looking for a takedown. Maverick pushes down on Mir's head and hops out.
Tom Maverick has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Frank Mir.
Mir tries for a takedown but Maverick sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Maverick tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Maverick feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Mir's calf.
Tom Maverick is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

A thudding body kick lands there by Maverick!
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Maverick.

Mir sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs.
Maverick throws a leg kick which misses Mir's front leg but catches the back leg as Mir tries to avoid it.
Mir is trying desperately to land a takedown but Maverick is having absolutely none of it. This is turning into a bit of a nightmare for Mir.
Maverick dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Mir. That did some damage!
Maverick clinches up with Mir and pushes him back against the cage.
Maverick ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Maverick no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Maverick manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Mir manages to get himself to full guard.

Maverick is pushing down on Mir's leg trying to pass to half guard. Mir is fighting to maintain full guard but Maverick has managed to sneak the leg through.

Mir felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.
Maverick looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Maverick wants to lay and pray for a moment but Mir keeps working.

Maverick is working for a kimura but Mir is defending it quite comfortably.
Mir is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Maverick pulls his head out easily.
Mir is trying to get back to full guard.
Maverick is working for a submission of some sort.

Maverick wants to take a breather but Mir is having none of it.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!
Maverick gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Maverick throws an elbow but it's blocked.
Mir tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Maverick smiles and moves away.
Mir darts in looking for a takedown but Maverick gets double underhooks and turns Mir into the cage.
Maverick is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.
Mir tries to circle away but Maverick has him pinned against the cage.
Mir looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Mir is trying to break free.
With the two fighters working up against the cage, Maverick just misses with a elbow thrown towards Mir's brow.
I was talking to Maverick's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.
Maverick lands an elbow inside.
It looks like Frank Mir has been cut.

Maverick with the Thai clinch, lands a knee to the head.
Mir is breathing heavily.
Maverick lands a nice knee to the body.
Mir tries to break the clinch but Maverick is controlling the position.
Kneeeeees! The crowd are calling for knees to the body. Maverick obliges.
Maverick looking to stall.
Maverick lands an elbow that stopped Mir in his tracks for a moment.
Maverick lands a knee to the head.
Mir is rocked!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Maverick trying to control the position but instead, Mir has worked for underhooks and has pushed Maverick into the cage.
Mir is still on wobbly legs! Can Maverick finish him?
Maverick jerks Mir's head down, straight into the path of a devastating knee! Mir drops to the floor in a crumpled heap! Maverick goes to throw a finishing haymaker but pulls out - good sportsmanship from Maverick because Mir was completely out of it. That was a nice finish - just the right level of brutality to send everyone home happy.
