The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dos Santos throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land.
Dos Santos fails in his attempt to clinch.

Dos Santos fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Rijkaard sprawls well initially but Dos Santos persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Rijkaard is not content to let Dos Santos control the position.
Rijkaard has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Dos Santos is working away from the top position though.

Dos Santos is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Rijkaard sees it coming and defends easily.
Dos Santos wants to control but Rijkaard is keeping him busy.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Dos Santos in particular looking to stall.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Dos Santos shoots in looking for a takedown but Rijkaard manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Dos Santos's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Rijkaard leaves Dos Santos with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Dos Santos throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Rijkaard's waist but Rijkaard gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Dos Santos off to one side.

Rijkaard lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
