Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Vinnie Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kurt Lockheart (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smith fails with the takedown
and Lockheart counters with a nice body shot.
No luck for Smith with that takedown attempt.
Smith wants to clinch but Lockheart slips to the side
and Lockheart makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Lockheart takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.
Smith tries to clinch but Lockheart moves away
and Lockheart counters by clinching up.
Lockheart pulls guard.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Lockheart is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Smith is controlling him.
Lockheart is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.
Smith looking to sit in guard and control but Lockheart gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Lockheart drops back, looking for a kneebar! Smith looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Smith looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Smith!
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
Lockheart is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Smith is controlling him well.

Smith swings around for an armbar but Lockheart sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Smith's guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Lockheart looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Lockheart working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Lockheart lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.

Smith is pressing down on Lockheart's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Lockheart wants to control from the top but Smith keeps moving.
Lockheart lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.

Smith is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Lockheart defends well.

Kurt Lockheart has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.

Smith tries to close the distance and clinch but Lockheart swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Lockheart fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Smith sprawls well initially but Lockheart persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Lockheart lands a nice short elbow.

Lockheart lands a couple of good shots and Smith has given up his back, trying to escape the position!
Smith is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Lockheart gets his way!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
