Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Costa Ioannou (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jake Dancer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Dancer has chosen Deftones - Feiticeira as his entrance music. Costa Ioannou has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Costa Ioannou!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jake Dancer!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Jack Bonds and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dancer tries for a takedown but Ioannou sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Ioannou fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Dancer, pushing him back against the cage.
Ioannou really is a fat lump.
Dancer tries for a takedown. No joy.
Ioannou misses with a knee strike.

Dancer works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.

Ioannou throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Dancer's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Ioannou throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
Dancer trying to control the position from guard on top but Ioannou is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Ioannou throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.

Dancer trying to control but Ioannou is working from the bottom.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Jake Dancer.
Dancer dives in for a single leg takedown but Ioannou sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Costa Ioannou has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jake Dancer.

Dancer gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
Dancer stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Ioannou swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Ioannou is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Dancer is controlling him.

Dancer got a little sloppy there for a moment and Ioannou has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Dancer has managed to get both his arms back between Ioannou's legs - danger averted.
Dancer is looking to pass into half guard but Ioannou pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Ioannou is in guard.
Ioannou won't allow Dancer to get back to his feet.

Ioannou looking to sit in guard and control but Dancer gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Ioannou will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Dancer trying to move into half guard but instead Ioannou has managed to sweep!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Ioannou trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Ioannou works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Ioannou is looking to take a break and control but Dancer is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Ioannou is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Dancer is looking to control Ioannou's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Dancer avoid being mounted?
Dancer wants to get back to full guard.
Ioannou throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Ioannou sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Dancer defending well though.

Dancer pushes Ioannou off but Ioannou dives into side control.

Ioannou stands up.

Dancer tries to keep at a distance but Ioannou has taken the fight into the clinch.

Dancer jumps guard.
Dancer looking to hit a scissor sweep but Ioannou is one step ahead there.
Ioannou might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Costa Ioannou will probably get the nod.

Dancer shoots and misses

and Ioannou moves into the clinch.

Ioannou has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Dancer uses from the top position.
Dancer wants to control from the top but Ioannou keeps moving.

Ioannou looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Dancer must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Ioannou is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Dancer is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.

Jake Dancer has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.

Ioannou gets the takedown into side control.
Dancer is looking to reverse the position.

Ioannou lands a decent elbow from side control.
Dancer gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Dancer looks like he's trying to stand up.
Dancer is breathing heavily.
Ioannou thows a huge punch but Dancer dodges it nicely.
Ioannou wants to control but Dancer is keeping him busy.
Dancer wants to get back to full guard.

Ioannou is looking for a kimura but Dancer is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Ioannou to get the leverage.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Dancer won't allow Ioannou to pass to mount.

Dancer blocking the ground and pound attempt from Ioannou.
Dancer trying to control but Ioannou postures up.
Dancer is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Ioannou's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Ioannou's back!

Dancer is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.

Ioannou is trying to remain composed but Dancer is hammering down strikes to the side of his head.

Dancer has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Ioannou has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Ioannou is looking to advance position but Dancer has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!

Dancer is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Ioannou has managed to escape the submission attempt.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Costa Ioannou will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!


Dancer tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Ioannou swivels and escapes.

Ioannou shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Ioannou was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Dancer tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Ioannou presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount!

Costa Ioannou overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Ioannou landing strikes from the mount and Dancer is in trouble!

Dancer is looking to get to half guard.

Ioannou lands a big shot there that rocks Dancer but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Dancer working to try and regain half guard.
Ioannou looking to control and managing it successfully.
Ioannou has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Dancer's face.

Ioannou fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!

Dancer has worked his way to half guard, taking advantage of Ioannou's lack of action.

Dancer tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Ioannou stops Dancer from standing up.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Ioannou would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Well Ioannou has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
