Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, Cu IV!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Diego Brandao!
The judges for this bout are Aleksandr Martynov, Sergei Dronov and Illya Tyunina.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Brandao connects with a looping right hand.
Brandao looks to land a left hand but IV moved out of range nicely.

IV instigates a clinch.
With the fighters up against the cage, IV throws an elbow but misses.
Brandao managing to block the knees to the body from IV.
IV is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Brandao is keeping busy.
Brandao misses with a body punch.
IV tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Brandao manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.
IV throws a nice elbow but it doesn't land.
IV keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Brandao's efforts to push away.
A battle for position here, against the cage.
Brandao trying to control the position but instead, IV has worked for underhooks and has pushed Brandao into the cage.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Brandao has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.
Brandao looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Brandao wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

Brandao on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Brandao doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
Brandao avoids the elbow strike from IV, against the cage.
Brandao lands a body punch.
Brandao tries to stall but IV uses the opportunity to gain a better position.

Brandao breaks the clinch.
Brandao clobbers IV with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
IV closes the distance and clinches up with Brandao, looking for a takedown. IV pushes Brandao against the cage but Brandao circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Brandao tries to close the distance and clinch but IV swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Brandao scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent.
IV tries to clinch but fails miserably
and Brandao counters with a nice low kick that buckles IV's knee momentarily.
IV wants to clinch but Brandao slips to the side
and Brandao counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena.
Brandao looks to score with a jab to the body but IV is just out of range.
A solid body kick from Brandao.
Brandao throws a jab but it's blocked by IV.
IV stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Brandao.
IV tries to clinch there but Brandao circles away.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
IV tries to clinch but Brandao moves out of range.
This has been an exciting period of action!
IV shoots in but no luck this time.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Cu IV. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Brandao throws a leg kick but IV checks it.
Brandao circles away from the clinch attempt
and Brandao makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.
Cu IV seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
IV fails with an attempt to clinch.

Brandao tries to keep at a distance but IV has taken the fight into the clinch.
Brandao tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.
IV with an attempt at a knee that misses.
The pace really dropping off here, momentarily.
Brandao works for underhooks and lands a body shot in the process.
A right handed body shot lands from IV.
A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.
IV drops down looking for an ankle pick but Brandao pulls his leg out and moves away.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Brandao enables IV to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Brandao manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Brandao looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
IV is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

IV is posturing up here but Brandao has hold of an arm and he's gone for an armbar! IV tries to roll out but it's too tight and IV has to tap! Slick submission there by Brandao!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:41 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Diego Brandao!
