The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Van De Velde slips under a jab from Martinez.
Van De Velde tries to clinch but Martinez is having none of it.
We've been hearing reports that Martinez has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.

and Martinez counters with a single leg into guard. Van De Velde didn't expect that.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Martinez drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Martinez jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Martinez is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Martinez thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Martinez drops back looking for a submission - "I'm sorry sir, but I'm gunna break your leg" says Martinez as he cranks on the unfortunate limb! Van De Velde screams and taps out before any major damage is done! Don't mess with Martinez! Nice submission victory there!

After the fight, Johnny Martinez was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
