Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Phil Willian (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Efrain Escalda (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Efrain Escalda will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Phil Willian! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Efrain Escalda! The judges for this bout are Seu Braga, Thiago Cunha and Felipe Paraventi.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Escalda keeps Willian at a distance using the push kick. Escalda closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup. Willian tries to bench press Escalda off him but Escalda keeps the position. Escalda working away. Escalda stands up and beckons Willian to his feet. Escalda looks winded! Escalda tries to close the distance and clinch up but Willian swats him away and circles back towards the center. Escalda moves into the clinch. Escalda escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Escalda is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Escalda rushes Willian and presses him up against the cage. A battle for position here, against the cage. Escalda tries to stall but Willian uses the opportunity to gain a better position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Willian lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Willian is taking a breather. Escalda says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something. Willian seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Escalda for as long as he can get away with. Escalda preventing any damage for now, controlling his opponent's head. Willian performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
We're going to have a standup here because Phil Willian wasn't active enough for the referee's liking. Escalda shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Willian sprawls well. Willian wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Escalda gets slowly back to his feet.

Willian tries to free his leg and advance position but Escalda is retaining full guard. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Willian sitting in guard here, content to control. The ref stands the fighters back up because Phil Willian just wasn't active enough. Willian closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard. Escalda is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Willian scores with a couple of nice shots. Willian sitting and controlling from the half guard. Willian lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears. Escalda trying to control but Willian postures up.
Willian takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Willian controlling the action here. Willian slips a nice elbow through Escalda's hands, connecting with Escalda's forehead. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Willian is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Willian seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Escalda tries to roll over but Willian keeps him under control. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Willian feints and as Escalda raises his hands in defense, Willian changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. Willian stands and steps away. Escalda gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game. Escalda misses with a body shot
and Willian counters with a shoot takedown into half guard. Willian decides to stand and escape the position. This has been an exciting period of action! Willian closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Willian lands in his opponent's guard. Willian passes into half guard. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Escalda manages to get to full guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Willian slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up. Willian stands up from Escalda's guard - Willian perhaps looking for a knockout.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Escalda keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. Willian throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Escalda was covering up waiting for the punch and Willian finishes the takedown easily into guard. Willian pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Escalda is keeping the position for now. Escalda lands a decent punch to the body there. Our spies down at at Cozad MMA Rio inform us that Escalda has really been working on his submissions in the buildup to this fight. Will it pay off?

Willian drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Willian jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Escalda wants to sweep but no luck.

Willian feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. Willian decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow. Escalda shoots in for a takedown but Willian shows good takedown defense. Willian shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Escalda's guard. Willian sitting in guard here, content to control. Escalda is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Phil Willian has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet. Escalda tries to clinch up but Willian circles away and keeps his distance. Escalda dives in and grabs Willian's left leg, looking for a takedown. Willian pushes down on Escalda's head and hops out. Willian closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard. Willian postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Escalda to stand up.

Willian with a momentary lay and pray from half guard. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Willian is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

Willian postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Escalda to stand up. Escalda fails with a takedown attempt from distance. Phil Willian has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Efrain Escalda. Willian gets the takedown into side control. Escalda struggling a bit here.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Escalda is looking to reverse the position. Willian is looking to take a break and control but Escalda is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Willian prevents Escalda from escaping the position. Escalda tries to get back to half guard but can't. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Escalda can't do much from the bottom here. Efrain Escalda has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Phil Willian is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. Willian stands up and we're back to a striking position.
And that's the end of the fight! Phil Willian showed his dominance in that final round. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Willian, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
