The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Sambers forces Matsumoto back against the cage and clinches. Matsumoto tightens his grip and picks Sambers up, before dumping him to the ground. Sambers manages to land in guard. Matsumoto gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent. Sambers lands a head kick!
No luck with that takedown attempt from Sambers. A leg kick checked by Matsumoto. Matsumoto looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Sambers! Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. A lull in the action here.
That's one minute gone in the round. Matsumoto tries to land with some ground and pound but misses. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Matsumoto takes a little break here. Sambers wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well. Matsumoto's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground. Sambers parries the strikes from Matsumoto easily there. Matsumoto is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Sambers to escape.

Sambers is working the ground and pound here and the referee is taking a close look at Matsumoto. He must escape soon or this one will be stopped. That's three minutes gone in the round. Sambers really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Matsumoto. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Sambers keeps control of the position as Matsumoto tries to break free.
Sambers is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Matsumoto is working hard here to advance position. Sambers not allowing Matsumoto to control his hands. Sambers is looking to control Matsumoto but Matsumoto is wriggling around and keeping busy.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Matsumoto rolls and manages to get back to half guard. Nicely done.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Matsumoto stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Matsumoto wants it to stay on the feet. Matsumoto closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Sambers quickly recovers to half guard. Matsumoto sitting and controlling from the half guard. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Sambers has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Matsumoto is working away from the top position though. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Taro Matsumoto dominated that round. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.
Matsumoto shoots in looking for a takedown but Sambers manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Matsumoto's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away. Sambers fails with a takedown attempt from distance. Sambers throws a series of punches but Matsumoto avoids them all with ease. Sambers wants to clinch. Sambers has taken the fight to the clinch.
Sambers keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Matsumoto's efforts to push away. Sambers drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Matsumoto gets the underhooks and prevents it.

Matsumoto has Sambers pressed against the cage, preventing Sambers from circling away and getting back to striking at range. Matsumoto has Sambers pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Matsumoto pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Sambers tumbling to the mat - Matsumoto dives into Sambers's guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Matsumoto preventing the sweep. Sambers is breathing heavily. Matsumoto content to stall in guard here. Taro Matsumoto overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Sambers is trying to control the position but Matsumoto postures up.

Matsumoto postures up in Sambers's guard and throws a big left but Sambers blocks it. Sambers being controlled here, momentarily. Matsumoto stands up from Sambers's guard - Matsumoto perhaps looking for a knockout. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Matsumoto connects with a right hand. Sambers shakes it off.
It looks like Corbin Sambers has been cut. A nice leg kick lands there from Matsumoto.
That's three minutes gone in the round. The fight stays on the outside here - Matsumoto looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Matsumoto has closed the distance and engaged Sambers in a clinch.
Matsumoto wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Sambers has him pressed against the cage. Sambers tries to score a body lock takedown but Matsumoto shows good agility there to stay on his feet. Taro Matsumoto has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Corbin Sambers. Matsumoto tries to break the clinch but Sambers is controlling the position. Matsumoto is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Matsumoto manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Matsumoto jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Sambers is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Sambers and Matsumoto has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Matsumoto sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Sambers's guard. Matsumoto controlling the action here. Matsumoto not landing any meaningful shots this time. Matsumoto stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Sambers to get to his feet.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Matsumoto gets a double leg takedown into Sambers's guard. Sambers looking to hit a scissor sweep but Matsumoto is one step ahead there. Sambers can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Matsumoto controls the pace. Sambers has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Matsumoto is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Sambers. You can see the frustration on Sambers's face as Matsumoto controls the position.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Matsumoto creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots. Matsumoto takes a little break here. Sambers wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Matsumoto tries to score with some ground and pound. Sambers controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage. Sambers being controlled for a moment. Corbin Sambers has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Taro Matsumoto is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Sambers throws a couple of strikes even though he's not really in a good position to do so.
And that's the end of the fight! Taro Matsumoto showed his dominance in that final round. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Matsumoto, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
