Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Gijs Vermeulen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jarod Black (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Vermeulen might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Money, Money, Money. Gijs Vermeulen could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to Jarod Black's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Gijs Vermeulen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jarod Black!
The judges for this bout are Yuuki Gou, Yasuomi Hirokawa and Taro Takaoka.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Black scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Vermeulen connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.


It looks like Jarod Black has been cut.
Black works Vermeulen's body with a nice hook.
Vermeulen ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Black moves away.
A right-left combo lands from Vermeulen.
Vermeulen misses with a jab, cross combination.
Vermeulen misses the shot to the body.
Vermeulen throws a hook but Black avoids it easily.
Black blocks a jab.

Black closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Black seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Vermeulen does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Vermeulen is defending against the submission attempts here by Black.
Vermeulen definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.

Black is working for a kimura but Vermeulen is defending it quite comfortably.

Black is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

Vermeulen is staying active underneath Black, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Vermeulen really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Vermeulen looks like he's trying to stand up.

Vermeulen is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Black is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Vermeulen defends it well.

Vermeulen is looking for a sweep. Black is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Black wants to advance to full mount but Vermeulen doesn't think that's going to happen and regains full guard instead.

Vermeulen wants to stand and escape but Black is having none of it.
Black tries to free his leg and advance position but Vermeulen is retaining full guard.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
Black looking to sit in guard and control but Vermeulen gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Vermeulen has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Black throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Vermeulen escapes and throws Black's legs to the side, diving into side control!
Black is trying to control Vermeulen's posture but Vermeulen avoids it.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Black is trying to get back to half guard.
Black has found himself in a tricky position here. He's been working his transitions in training so let's see if he can work his way out of it.

Vermeulen goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Black rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Vermeulen's guard! Nice work there by Black!

Black moves forwards but Vermeulen connects with a nice, crisp jab.
Vermeulen just misses with a punch to the body.
Vermeulen uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Black.
Vermeulen misses the shot to the body.
Vermeulen just misses with a punch to the body.
Black throws the left hand but Vermeulen avoids the punch easily.
Gijs Vermeulen seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Vermeulen rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Black moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Vermeulen lands the left hand.
Vermeulen throws a shot to the body.
Black takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Vermeulen throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Vermeulen gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Black.
Black takes a swing at Vermeulen's ribcage but misses.

Black shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Black showed some decent athleticism there.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Vermeulen wants to get back to his feet.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Vermeulen tries to roll over but Black keeps him under control.
Black stalling away here and it's allowed Vermeulen to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.

Black postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Vermeulen is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Black, into his guard.

Black is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Black pulls Vermeulen in close to prevent any damage.
Black looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Vermeulen puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
Vermeulen tries to pass to full mount but Black defends it.

Black looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
Black wants to get back to full guard but Vermeulen has passed into side control.

Black wants to control but Vermeulen postures up.
Vermeulen is looking to take a break and control but Black is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Black is trying to avoid being dragged into an even worse position than he's already in but Vermeulen is staying active.

Vermeulen wants to lay and pray for a moment but Black keeps working.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Vermeulen wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
Vermeulen misses the jab.
Vermeulen throws a right and a left that both miss.

Black avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Black looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Vermeulen is fending him off so far but Black persists. Nope, Vermeulen circles away and we're back to standing.
Black drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Black misses the shot to the body.
Vermeulen misses with an uppercut. Black saw that one coming.
A decent looking cross lands there for Vermeulen.
Vermeulen lands with a cross.


Black is rocked!
Vermeulen closes the distance and lands a vicious right hand that drops Black! Vermeulen dives in looking to finish! Black is still trying to defend himself but he's taking too many shots and the referee has no choice but to stop the fight!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:17 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Gijs Vermeulen!
During a confident post fight interview, Gijs Vermeulen thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
