PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Mr Black (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Steinar Sting (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Black comes into the arena with yes blaring out of the sound system. There are an array of beautiful celebrities at ringside tonight! I wonder if any of them paid for their tickets.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

With a record of 36 - 21 - 1, fighting out of Amsterdam, Steinar Sting!
The judges for this bout are Paul Tew, James Glass and Steven Brown.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Black checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time.
Sting needs to keep his hands up - Black had a free shot at his head there.
A left and a right from Sting both land. Nice combination.
Sting connects with a crisp jab.
Black cracks a nice hook into Sting's ribs.
Steinar Sting seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Sting tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Black was well out of range. Poor timing from Sting.
Black swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Sting pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Sting ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Sting lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.

Black has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Black creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Sting sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.

Sting is bucking up trying to escape but Black cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
Sting is in all sorts of trouble here.

Black working to pass to mount. He's got his hand pressing down on Sting's thigh. Sting counters though and makes it back to full guard.

Sting is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Black postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Black loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Black advances to half guard.
Sting trying to control here.
Black is looking to take a break and control but Sting is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Sting makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Sting.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Black blocks the body kick.
Sting throws a nice inside leg kick.
Black connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Sting momentarily.

and Black connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Sting jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Black connects with a right hand. Sting shakes it off.
A punch lands to the side of Sting 's head but he takes it in his stride.
Black delivers a nice body kick.
Black is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches.

Black lands a jab-cross combination.
Sting dives in and grabs Black's left leg, looking for a takedown. Black pushes down on Sting's head and hops out.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Sting throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Black shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.

Sting closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Black moves into full guard.
Black trying to keep a closed guard but Sting is proving a slippery customer.
Sting cracks Black with a solid left hand.
Sting wants to control from the top but Black keeps moving.
Black is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Black had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Sting defends it easily.
My spies in GTi 888 inform me that Sting has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!

Black escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Sting gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Black pushes a forearm under Sting's chin to create some space. He's escaped his hips and pivoted quickly for an armbar! Can he extend the arm? Yes, Sting is tapping out! Damn, that was fast!
