PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Steve Rogers (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tyson Pain (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Steve Rogers!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Tyson Pain!
The judges for this bout are Damien Edna, Hugh Johnson and Ben Hemmingworth.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pain's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Rogers connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Pain scrambles back to his feet.

Pain shoots in and gets a takedown into Rogers's guard.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Pain won't allow Rogers to sweep him here.
Pain stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Rogers swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Rogers is trying to keep Pain in close.
Rogers looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Pain puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
Pain missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Rogers tries to get to full guard but Pain has control of the leg.
Pain trying to control the action but Rogers is working from the bottom.
Rogers is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Rogers moves into full guard.
Rogers thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.
Rogers is adopting a defensive guard.
Pain wants to control from the top but Rogers keeps moving.

Rogers is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Pain has a takedown stuffed.

Rogers scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Rogers prevents Pain from improving his position.
Rogers working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Pain has found himself in a tricky position here. He's been working his transitions in training so let's see if he can work his way out of it.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Pain wants to control but Rogers is keeping busy.
Rogers is trying to control the action in half guard but Pain is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Rogers looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Pain with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Pain is refusing to be controlled, as Rogers sits in half guard.
Pain is trying to maintain the position but Rogers is very close to passing his half guard.

Rogers working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

Rogers prevents Pain from improving his position.

Rogers seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Pain does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Pain is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Rogers pulls his head out easily.
Rogers throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Rogers thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Pain is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Rogers's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Rogers's back!

Rogers is really stuck here.

Rogers rolls and manages to get back to half guard. Nicely done.
Rogers is in trouble now - Pain has advanced to mount!
This has been an exciting period of action!
Pain trying to control but Rogers is having none of it.
Rogers tries to hold on but Pain postures up.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Rogers keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.

Pain wants to finish this one by submission but Rogers is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Pain.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Steve Rogers dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Pain fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Rogers avoids it really well and circles away.
Rogers leaves Pain with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Rogers lands with a right hand.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Pain.
Steve Rogers has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Tyson Pain.

Rogers throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Pain was covering up waiting for the punch and Rogers finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Rogers avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Rogers is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Steve Rogers overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Rogers is pushing down on Pain's leg trying to pass to half guard. Pain is fighting to maintain full guard but Rogers has managed to sneak the leg through.
Pain is looking for a sweep. Rogers is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Rogers is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Pain!
We've been hearing that Rogers has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish.
Rogers prevents Pain from getting the reversal.
Pain is still trying to improve position.
Rogers lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
Rogers trying to control but Pain is having none of it.
Rogers landing strikes from the mount.
Rogers with shots to the head and body - Pain looks very uncomfortable down there.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Rogers lands a couple of good shots and Pain has given up his back, trying to escape the position!
Pain is still in real trouble! Can Rogers finish him?

Rogers is scoring with a succession of shots from the back. Pain is covering up - he's had enough and the ref steps in to end the fight!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:19 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Steve Rogers!
A relieved looking Steve Rogers thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
