Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Fabio Maldonado (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alex Silva (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Alex Silva was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

The judges for this bout are Felipe Paraventi, Mauricio Rocha and Matheus Silva.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Maldonado throws a head kick that misses
and Silva counters by clinching up.
Maldonado is trying to drag Silva to the mat but Silva just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Silva is trying to wear down his opponent with knees to the body.
Silva has Maldonado pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Silva pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Maldonado tumbling to the mat - Silva dives into Maldonado's guard.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Silva wants to pass the guard but Maldonado is keeping the position.
Silva passes easily into side control. Nice work.

Maldonado's coaches at Cozad MMA Rio have been working on his defensive grappling in preparation for this fight so let's see if he can get out of this tricky position.
Silva has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Silva has control of Maldonado's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Maldonado regains control of the situation pretty easily.

Silva is landing with some decent strikes but Maldonado is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.

Silva cracks Maldonado with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
Maldonado is breathing heavily.
Silva takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Silva tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

Silva lands a big shot there that rocks Maldonado but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.
Silva feints and as Maldonado raises his hands in defense, Silva changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Silva passes Maldonado's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Silva slows the pace down in half guard.
Silva tries to pass the half guard into mount. Maldonado knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Maldonado is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Silva scores with a couple of nice shots.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Silva works his way into side control.
Maldonado is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Silva asserts his dominance and retains side control.
Alex Silva has got the better of the ground game so far.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Maldonado manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
The fighters are battling for position here. Silva manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Maldonado has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing Silva to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! Maldonado is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - Silva pulls down on the head and he's put Maldonado to sleep! This one is all over!
