PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Barry Scott (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Karim Chamakh (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Scott comes to the cage accompanied by Bang - By Barry Scott. Chamakh has chosen Robyn - Indestructible as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 29 - 17 - 2, fighting out of Hilo, Barry Scott!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 34 - 17 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Karim Chamakh!
The judges for this bout are James Atkins, James Glass and Steven Brown.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Scott connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
Scott throws a leg kick that misses.
Scott jabs away that one connects to the head of his opponent.
Scott looks to score with a jab to the body but Chamakh is just out of range.
Scott changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Chamakh tries to avoid it but Scott manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Chamakh to the ground. Chamakh escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Scott misses with a looping right.
We've been informed that Chamakh has been sparring a lot of Muay Thai in the buildup to this fight so let's see if that has an impact on the result.
Scott throws a nice looking combination but Chamakh bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Scott throws the left hand but Chamakh avoids the punch easily.
Scott misses the shot to the body.
Chamakh checks the leg kick nicely there.
Scott thuds his right hand into Chamakh's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
Scott misses with a hook. Chamakh ducked under it nicely.
Scott takes a swing at Chamakh's ribcage but misses.
Scott looks to score with a jab to the body but Chamakh is just out of range.

Scott tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Chamakh was well out of range. Poor timing from Scott.
Chamakh uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Scott.

We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Scott wants to improve his position but Chamakh is controlling well.
Scott is trying to control but can't.
Scott manages to get to full guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Chamakh postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Chamakh accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Scott has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Chamakh can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Scott is looking for a triangle here but Chamakh uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.

Chamakh is looking to take a break and control but Scott is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Chamakh wants to lay and pray for a moment but Scott keeps working.
Chamakh has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Scott is looking to regain half guard here but Chamakh keeps moving and retains side control.

That was a close round but I would say that Barry Scott will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Chamakh avoids a kick to the body.

Scott is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Chamakh is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Scott is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Scott seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Chamakh does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Barry Scott.

Scott tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Chamakh is able to avoid easily.

Scott swings for the body but Chamakh moves out of range.
Scott comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.

Barry Scott seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Scott tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Chamakh paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Scott looks to land a combination but Chamakh avoids it well.
Scott looks to land a left hand but Chamakh moved out of range nicely.
Scott misses with a low kick as Chamakh jumps back.

Chamakh uses his free foot to push down on Scott's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Scott.

Chamakh lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Chamakh lands a nice short elbow.
Scott has his hands clasped together around Chamakh's back. He's all about the action.
Barry Scott is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Chamakh passes into side control, despite Scott's attempt to control the position.

Karim Chamakh comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Scott has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
