2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Matthew Malians! The judges for this bout are Joseph Jones, John Roberts and David Schapiro.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Malians keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. MacAngus shoots in but Malians avoids the takedown attempt easily. MacAngus drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. MacAngus looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. Malians is positioning himself to get back to half guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. MacAngus advances to mount. MacAngus takes Malians's back. Could be looking for a rear naked choke here - either way, Malians is in trouble. MacAngus has his opponent's back and is working for the choke. You can see the frustration on Malians's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.
Malians rolls and manages to get back to half guard. Nicely done.
That's one minute gone in the round. MacAngus is trying to work for a kimura. He's got his hands clasped together - this could be trouble! No, Malians has managed to free his arm - good work. Malians looking for submissions off his back. Both fighters really going for it on the ground here! MacAngus is looking for a kimura but Malians is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for MacAngus to get the leverage. MacAngus trying to mount his opponent but Malians defends it. MacAngus is trying to work for a kimura. He's got his hands clasped together - this could be trouble! No, Malians has managed to free his arm - good work. MacAngus is breathing heavily. Malians tries to get to full guard but MacAngus has control of the leg. Malians moves into full guard.
MacAngus is posturing up here but Malians has hold of an arm and he's gone for an armbar! MacAngus tries to roll out but it's too tight and MacAngus has to tap! Slick submission there by Malians!
