Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
10 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Kyle Babcock! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Steve Orvel! The judges for this bout are Emerson Jorge, Alexandre Firmino and Paulo Santos.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Orvel shoots and misses and Babcock counters with a nice uppercut. Orvel fails with the takedown letting Babcock counter with a right hand. Babcock closes the distance and lands a one-two. Orvel misses with a takedown attempt and Babcock counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body. Kyle Babcock has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Steve Orvel. Orvel has his takedown stuffed enabling Babcock to counter with a crisp jab. Babcock ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent. Babcock waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Orvel. Babcock bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Orvel takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
Orvel closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Babcock to the mat! Babcock manages to get full guard. The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace. Babcock is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Orvel wants to pass the guard but Babcock is keeping the position. Babcock looking for a guillotine here but Orvel defends easily.
Babcock is trying to keep Orvel in close.
Babcock knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Orvel on the ground.
That's one minute gone in the round. Babcock is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Orvel is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Babcock is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Babcock has escaped and now he's on top! Orvel pulls Babcock in close to prevent any damage. Orvel is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Orvel looking for a guillotine here but Babcock defends easily.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Babcock is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions. Babcock trying to control but Orvel is working from the bottom. Orvel throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Babcock wants to control from the top but Orvel keeps moving. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Orvel has momentary wrist control but Babcock slips an elbow through the middle. Babcock content to stall in guard here. Orvel keeping moving, preventing Babcock from controlling successfully.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Babcock wants to pass the guard but Orvel is keeping the position. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The ref stands the fighters back up. Kyle Babcock wasn't doing enough on the ground. Orvel with a poor takedown and Babcock makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range. Babcock lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected. Babcock connects with a good right hand that stumbles Orvel. Orvel circles away out of range and recomposes himself. Babcock lands a glancing blow to the side of Orvel's head. Orvel tries for a takedown but Babcock circles away easily and Orvel takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles. Kyle Babcock is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Babcock lands with a nice combination. Orvel backs away looking to recover. Left hook, right uppercut from Babcock.
Orvel is rocked! We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! I'm just looking down at my notes here and I see that.... oh! Babcock has cracked Orvel with a big right, followed by a left! He's out on his feet! Babcock lands another huge swinging hook and Orvel tumbles to the canvas! The ref dives in to save Orvel, before Babcock can land any more shots!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:59 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Kyle Babcock! Kyle Babcock seemed lost for words in his post fight interview but he remembered to thank his fans and directed everyone to his website.
