The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Okunaba stuffs the takedown attempt from Santiago. Santiago gets slowly back to his feet. Okunaba feints and as Santiago raises his hands in defense, Okunaba changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup. Okunaba's corner is telling him to maintain position. Santiago looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Santiago looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Okunaba has picked Santiago up and slammed him! Santiago can't keep hold of the triangle and Okunaba manages to pass to side control! The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring. Santiago tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Okunaba wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. Okunaba is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Santiago's shoulder. That is not cool. Santiago tries to buck Okunaba off but Okunaba is having none of it. Okunaba is looking to take a break and control but Santiago is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Okunaba tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Okunaba has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Santiago trying to remain calm as Okunaba controls from the top position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Santiago wants to improve his position, back to half guard but Okunaba has ideas of his own. He's got hold of Santiago's far side arm and it looks like he's got an Americana. Ohh! Ohhhh! OOOOOOOOOH! A human being's arm is not meant to bend like that! Santiago is tapping like a morse code operator on the Titanic! SOS SOS! He's out of here! Great win for Okunaba!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:33 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Sisu Okunaba!
