Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Ben Askren (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gordo Nemrik (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Man, I cannot wait for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Ben Askren! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Gordo Nemrik! The judges for this bout are Dirk Anderson, David Hoff and Michael Johnstone.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Nemrik leaves Askren with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Ben Askren seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Askren with a poor takedown so Nemrik counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility. Askren trying to control the position here. Nemrik with a nice head shot there. Askren keeping moving, preventing Nemrik from controlling successfully. Nemrik throws a big right hand that misses. Nemrik trying to control the position from guard on top but Askren is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Nemrik content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots. Nemrik preventing the sweep. Askren manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Nemrik manages to get himself to full guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Askren preventing the sweep. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Nemrik has momentary wrist control but Askren slips an elbow through the middle. Nemrik should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete. Nemrik manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

Askren tries to lock up and control but Nemrik gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away. Askren manages to regain half guard. Good work. Askren is looking to improve his position.

We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Askren tries to get out of the position. Askren slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The fighters are working up against the cage. Askren manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage. Nemrik looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights. Askren is trying to trip Nemrik. He has hold of a leg but Nemrik is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Askren persists though and gets the takedown into guard. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Askren trying to control the position from guard on top but Nemrik is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Nemrik wants to sweep here but Askren controlling him for the moment. Askren wants to control from the top but Nemrik keeps moving. The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up. Nemrik is trying to keep Askren in close.

Nemrik tries to land a sweep but no joy. Askren postures up and lands some nice ground and pound. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Nemrik avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. Nemrik working a defensive guard here.
Askren slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up. Nemrik working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Askren. Nemrik looking to control.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Gordo Nemrik hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart. Nemrik looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Askren is fending him off so far but Nemrik persists. Nope, Askren circles away and we're back to standing. Nemrik misses with an uppercut. Askren gets a double leg takedown into Nemrik's guard. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Askren with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal. Askren has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Nemrik looking to control.
Askren postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Nemrik working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Askren. Askren seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up. Hammerfist, elbow! yells Askren's corner. There ya go! There ya go! The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Nemrik working a defensive guard here.

Askren uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Nemrik.

Askren shoots for a double leg takedown but Nemrik sprawls well. He's pushed Askren's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Askren shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Nemrik but Nemrik pushes him off and we're back to square one. Askren fails with a takedown attempt. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ben Askren. That's going to take a lot out of him. Nemrik loads up on a big right hand but Askren slips the punch. Askren shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Askren keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Askren goes for a double leg but Nemrik avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Nemrik continues to drive forward. Askren has Nemrik pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Askren pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Nemrik tumbling to the mat - Askren dives into Nemrik's guard. Askren postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Ben Askren overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Nemrik pulls Askren in to control the position. Askren missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. Nemrik is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Askren controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling. The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up. Nemrik is trying to keep Askren in close.
The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Gordo Nemrik wasn't active enough on the ground. Nemrik throws a shot from downtown. Askren moves away and avoids it. Nemrik looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Askren is fending him off so far but Nemrik persists. Nope, Askren circles away and we're back to standing.

Askren is looking to take a break and control but Nemrik is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Nice strikes from Askren there. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Nemrik is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Askren is trying to control. Nemrik wants to improve his position but can't escape this time. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Nemrik fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Askren manages to avoid it. Askren shoots for a takedown but Nemrik saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. Askren closes the distance and clinches up with Nemrik, looking for a takedown. Askren pushes Nemrik against the cage but Nemrik circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ben Askren. That's going to take a lot out of him. Askren fails with the takedown and Nemrik counters with a nice double leg into guard. Askren preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Askren pulls Nemrik in close to his closed guard and prevents Nemrik from doing any damage or advancing position. Ben Askren has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet. Askren drives through with a takedown into Nemrik's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position. A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Nemrik holds on and takes a little breather. Nemrik wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Askren is now in half guard. Askren seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Nemrik does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. Askren throwing shots but Nemrik is blocking nicely. Nemrik regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Askren. Nemrik is trying to control the position from the bottom.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Nemrik might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Askren haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time. Askren is looking to work some ground and pound but Nemrik has wrist control. Askren postures up and lands some nice ground and pound. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Nemrik pulls Askren in close to prevent any damage. It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup. Askren throws a strike but Nemrik rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top. Nemrik throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Askren works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Askren trying to keep a closed guard but Nemrik is proving a slippery customer.

Askren is keeping the position for now. Nemrik is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

Nemrik is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Askren pushes Nemrik off but Nemrik dives into side control.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Askren is trying to control Nemrik's posture but Nemrik avoids it. Nemrik in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.
And that's the end of the fight! I would just about give that final round to Gordo Nemrik. I think Askren has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
