The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jawara works over Varona's head and body with a nice combination.
It looks like Carlos Varona has been cut.
Some bone on bone action there as Varona checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.
Varona tries to score a power double leg takedown but Jawara sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Varona somewhat.
Jawara thows a body shot but no joy.

We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Varona has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.

Varona drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Jawara manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Varona has Jawara in his guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Jawara is posturing up here but Varona has hold of an arm and he's gone for an armbar! Jawara tries to roll out but it's too tight and Jawara has to tap! Slick submission there by Varona!
