Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

The judges for this bout are Johanna Lukiainen, Marco Blurström and Matti Vanhoillinen.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bass shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Paakkonen as he jumps to the side.
Paakkonen keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Paakkonen throws a right hand that Bass ducks under and follows up with a left that Bass also avoids with ease.
Paakkonen keeps the fight on the outside.
Paakkonen blocks a head kick by Bass.
Bass cracks Paakkonen with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.
Bass wants to clinch up but Paakkonen keeps it at a distance.
Paakkonen swats away the attempt to clinch by Bass.

and Bass counters with a lovely straight right hand!
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Paakkonen throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Bass stands and steps away. Paakkonen gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Bass bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
You can see the frustration on Paakkonen's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Bass will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Paakkonen is keen to just control but Bass is a slippery customer.

Petri Paakkonen showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
