Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jon Grey! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
10 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Cosh Boy! The judges for this bout are Trevor Gratis, William Peck and Steve Smith.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Grey shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Boy as he jumps to the side. Boy shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Boy was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure! The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet. Boy working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it. Boy controlling from side mount. Boy trying to control the action but Grey is working from the bottom. Boy scoring with punches from side control. Boy landing strikes. Grey is looking to regain half guard here but Boy keeps moving and retains side control. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Grey is working hard here to advance position. Boy has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. My spies in Slaughterhouse MMA (Redesigned) inform me that Boy has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends! Grey taking punishment in the form of punches.
That's one minute gone in the round. Grey is looking for a sweep. Grey gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there! Grey is squirming around, avoiding Boy's attempts to control the action. Grey is in all sorts of trouble here.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here! The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Boy trying to control but he's not successful this time. Grey definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight. Boy with good strikes from the mount here! Boy lands a big elbow - Grey is in trouble! More strikes from the mount and Grey is forced to tap out!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:56 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Strikes). Cosh Boy! Our winner, Cosh Boy, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
