PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Nathan Cortez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Justin Dunn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Nathan Cortez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 9 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Justin Dunn!
The judges for this bout are Aafke Stam, Patrick Alders and Daniel Blasius.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Cortez, as that shot connected.
Dunn takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Dunn takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
Dunn walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
Cortez lands a jab to the nose.
Cortez catches Dunn with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!

Dunn forces Cortez back against the ropes and clinches.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Cortez fails to pull the fight into his guard.

Dunn's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
A jab from Cortez finds it's way through Dunn's defenses.
Cortez lands a nice shot to the body.
Cortez fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Cortez scores with a shot to the body.
Cortez moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
Cortez dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Dunn takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.
Cortez lands with a hook. Dunn tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
Cortez connects with a looping right hand.

Dunn has closed the distance and engaged Cortez in a clinch.
Cortez jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Dunn walks away with a smile on his face. Cortez gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Nathan Cortez. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Cortez scores with a decent looking hook.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Cortez cracks Dunn with an open hand slap.
Cortez connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Dunn's hands.
Dunn takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
Dunn looks winded!
Dunn throws a head kick that misses.
Nice shot lands for Cortez.
Good standup being displayed there by Cortez as he connects with a hook.
Dunn takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.
Cortez lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.
Dunn moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
Cortez lands a jab to the head.
No joy there for Cortez, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Dunn has a pretty nasty looking mouse under his right eye.
Dunn misses with a takedown attempt - Cortez sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Cortez goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.


Dunn is rocked!

Cortez lands a left and a right that sends Dunn crashing to the canvas! Cortez dives into mount looking to finish!
Dunn is still in real trouble! Can Cortez finish him?

Cortez has hold of an arm here, looking to extend it. He's committed to the armbar attempt here! Will he get it?! Yes! Dunn is forced to tap!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:56 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Nathan Cortez!
