PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Tomas Aldebaran (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Thomas Untaka (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Untaka is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Jimi Hendrix - Purple Haze. Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Tomas Aldebaran!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Thomas Untaka!
The judges for this bout are Columbo Gatti, Franklyn Lucas and Dean Styles.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Aldebaran lands a jab-cross combination.
Aldebaran cracks Untaka with a right hand to the side of the head.
Aldebaran lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Untaka circles away quickly and effectively.
Aldebaran displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Untaka.
Aldebaran fails with a takedown attempt.
Aldebaran stuffs the takedown attempt from Untaka. Untaka gets slowly back to his feet.
Untaka shoots in looking for a takedown but Aldebaran manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Untaka's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Tomas Aldebaran has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Thomas Untaka.
No luck for Aldebaran with that takedown attempt.
Aldebaran throws a left and a right that both miss

and Untaka counters with a shoot takedown. Aldebaran fights it but they end up in guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Aldebaran is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Thomas Untaka wasn't active enough on the ground.

Aldebaran throws a wild combination but nothing lands.

Aldebaran wants to clinch up but Untaka keeps it at a distance.
Untaka throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Aldebaran's waist but Aldebaran gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Untaka off to one side.
Aldebaran swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

Aldebaran throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Aldebaran misses with a few strikes there.
Aldebaran fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Aldebaran shoots in but no luck this time.
Aldebaran is breathing heavily.
Aldebaran throws a predictable looking body shot
and Untaka counters with a big head kick but Aldebaran shrugs it off.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Untaka fails with a takedown attempt.
Aldebaran fails to land with a series of punches.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Aldebaran.
Untaka misses with a takedown attempt - Aldebaran sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Aldebaran misses with the combination.
Untaka goes for a double leg but Aldebaran avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Aldebaran continues to drive forward.
Untaka can't get the takedown.
Untaka is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Aldebaran is defending well.

Aldebaran is looking to break free of the clinch but Untaka has double underhooks.
Untaka goes for a takedown attempt but Aldebaran pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

Aldebaran has taken the fight to the clinch.
Untaka is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Aldebaran digs a right hand into Untaka's ribs. Those have got to be taking their toll on Untaka's gas tank.
Untaka is looking for a takedown.
Untaka wants a takedown but no success here.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Aldebaran is trying to break the clinch but Untaka is controlling him.
Untaka keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Aldebaran's efforts to push away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Thomas Untaka will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Aldebaran throws a right and a left that Untaka avoids nicely.
Aldebaran throws a combination that misses

and Untaka counters with a shoot takedown. Aldebaran fights it but they end up in guard.
Untaka trying to control the position from guard on top but Aldebaran is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Thomas Untaka has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Aldebaran misses with a combination

and Untaka counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Aldebaran keeping hold of Untaka's head, controlling as best he can.

Untaka is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Untaka is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Aldebaran is just riding it out for now. Untaka eventually gives up the hold.

Untaka is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Aldebaran sees it coming and defends easily.

Untaka is keen to just control but Aldebaran is a slippery customer.

Untaka is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Aldebaran has managed to free his arm - good work.
Untaka is trying to control the action in half guard but Aldebaran is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Untaka is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
Aldebaran is trying is best to control the position here.

Aldebaran pushes Untaka off looking to stand but Untaka dives back in and keeps control.
Aldebaran tries to get to full guard but Untaka has control of the leg.
Thomas Untaka has got the better of the ground game so far.
Untaka wants to lay and pray for a moment but Aldebaran keeps working.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Thomas Untaka hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Aldebaran tries to clinch there but Untaka circles away.

Aldebaran slaps away a takedown attempt from Untaka, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Some wild striking there from Aldebaran.
Untaka will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Untaka tries to pull guard but Aldebaran won't allow it.
Aldebaran is defending well against a takedown attempt.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Untaka works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.

Untaka drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Aldebaran manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Untaka has Aldebaran in his guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Thomas Untaka showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!


Aldebaran throws a head kick but Untaka moves out of range.
Aldebaran tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Untaka manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Aldebaran shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Untaka pinned against the cage. Untaka gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Aldebaran throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Untaka counters with a head kick.
Untaka avoids a punch combination nicely.
Aldebaran shoots for a double leg takedown but Untaka sprawls well. He's pushed Aldebaran's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Aldebaran tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Untaka swivels and escapes.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Tomas Aldebaran. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Untaka fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Aldebaran misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Tomas Aldebaran is winning the standup battle so far.
Untaka tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Aldebaran manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Aldebaran lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
Aldebaran moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.

Untaka closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Aldebaran is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Untaka is controlling him well.

Untaka is working for what looks like an arm triangle here. Aldebaran is trying to escape and Untaka transitions quickly into an armbar! He's slapped it on tight and Aldebaran is forced to tap! Nice work there by Untaka! Very nice indeed!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:36 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Thomas Untaka!
After winning the bout, Thomas Untaka thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
